A few weeks ago I flew to Alaska to visit my boyfriend. The first weekend I was there he proposed to me and we took many little side trips and camping trips. Well, in the midst of all the excitement, I managed to forget to take three pills in a row, I took each of them between 4-12 hours late. We did not use any back-up. I know, I know… So the particular incidence of missing three pills happened about two weeks ago, I am on a newish pill for me and have still been spotting periodically. Since then I have been taking my pill on time. I am wondering how soon I can accurately test for pregnancy. I am only two days away from my inactive pills, but I have no idea when you are supposed to test while on the pill.
Help! I am confused!

@JediAshley: You could probably test now. And then a couple days in to your inactive pills if you get a negative the first time. Normally a couple hours each time wouldn’t really allow you to get pregnant, but the fact that it’s a new pill too would make me worry a little as well.

@JediAshley:12 DPO is usually the earliest you can test. Since the sperm can live for 4 days sometimes, I think you should could 4 days after that third day you missed, and then count 12 days from that day. That’s the first day you can test an potentially get a + if you are pregnant. Some people can take 21 DPO to show on a pregnancy test, so take a last test 21 days from that day as well. If they’re all negative, you’re probably not pregnant.
If you think you have pregnancy symptoms but still are getting negative tests, call your doctor.

Thank you for the comments! I will pick up a few tests soon, just to ease my mind. I want to know sooner rather than later so I can take steps to ensure a safe pregnancy if I am indeed pregnant!
