@Luayne:  Where in Ontario do you live?

I’m in Toronto and drinks are no where near that expensive O.o I have a cocktail hour with unlimited hor derves, 4 course + midnight seafood and sweet buffet and bar open from 5pm to 1am and its only $100 a head. By your alchohol prices I should be paying twice that….

I personally think having an open bar is an extra cost that is totally unnecessary! While I think it’s a nice treat, it is SO not a deal breaker. I went to two very nice weddings, one open bar and one cash bar (not even wine was supplied) and I didn’t think anything of it. I was getting free food and a great party for free, I’m not also ENTITLED to free alcohol!

My sister did an open bar and paid $25 per head for a reception of about 200 people (HUGE extra expense) and I think the bridal party were the only ones who drank their $25 worth! I say, if you want to supply some alcohol, supply the wine on the table, the champange toast and maybe one or two kegs. You can tell your guests, when the keg runs dry, it’s time to buy!
