    @kenya.latham.1:  my post was in response to someone else, I didn’t bother answering your question because I don’t feel like banging my head against a wall.

    @kenya.latham.1:  you are very amusing. I hope you stick around and continue to post threads asking for opinions and arguing with everyone who disagrees with you.

    And I will have a nice day, mainly because I don’t get worked up over a message board on the Internet.

    @andielovesj:  This.

    I’ve been to many dry wedding receptions, and it never offended me because culturally it is the norm in that particular community.  I’ve been to quite a few open bar receptions, in their various forms of incarnation, which were a lot of fun.  The only time I felt the hosts weren’t properly caring for their guests is when they had a cash bar.

    In my opinion, the hosts’ (bride and groom) drinking preferences should not factor at all into whether or not they opt to have an open bar.  You are hosting a party and should not expect your guests to pay for anything.

    DH and I aren’t big drinkers and didn’t want our wedding to turn into a frat party. We bought one keg and offered two signature drinks. We had a total of 90 guests and the keg ran out by 9pm (cocktail hour started at 5) and we went through six gallons total of the mixed drinks. I think it worked out great and our alcohol bill was under $700. I don’t think open bars are “standard” and I don’t think it is rude to have a cash bar. We wanted to spend that money on a better meal than buying everyone’s drunk.
