We had a cocktail hour that went right into our dinner/reception and we just kept the bar open the whole time.

I’d have the bar open regardless of having a gap or not. I would definitely have it open through dinner if you were only offering a cocktail. We don’t generally have open bars here though, but we offer wines with food and such 🙂

You should open the bar when the ceremony is over. Unless you are doing table drinks, served wine, etc… then you could open it towards the end of dinner

We are having a cocktail hour [with non-alcohol drinks] – our bar will open after dinner. We will have 5 different drink choices, as well as 2 punches. Wine, ice water and sparkling grape juice will be on each table for those who wish to drink them.

We opened the bar maybe thirty minutes before dinner was served; that way, people could have whatever beverage they liked for dinner.  We kept the bar open for dinner, but closed it during speeches, and then reopened it afterwards for the rest of the night.  It worked well.

Open it when they enter as they will start drinking before and during dinner! this will assist with the willingness to dance..
