I think people like to see you open the gifts and have an outward reaction to it. (even though most of the time you picked it out anyway)

I think it is in poor taste to NOT open your gifts in front of the guests at a shower of any type.

I agree with others in that you should open your gifts at the shower.

honestly, this is the part of having a shower that I dread the most. I dont like “all eyes on me”, but its part of it so I guess I have to just get over my stage fright.

I love watching people open gifts and seeing the excitement and hearing thank you.  If you’re having a lot of people, I probably would not, but if it’s just a few I don’t see why you wouldn’t!

I think the point of showers is to open the gifts in front of the guests.

The point of a shower is to “shower” the bride or mother-to-be with gifts…that includes opening them in front of the guests.  I would think it was strange if the gifts weren’t opened at the shower.

I’ve never witnessed a shower where the presents weren’t opened. Gift opening normally encompasses a good third of the whole event.

Yeah, normally you’re expected to open the presents right then, but I honestly don’t like this tradition. I find it awkward. I went to a shower this weekend and the bride didn’t open any presents, and I was psyched. 🙂 but yeah, it sounds like I’m alone in this opinion.

While awkward to do, I think it’s expected to open the gifts at the shower. I LOVE the idea of having a nice set up of boxes on a table so that the gifts can be opened either right away (or even better, wrapped in clear plastic by guests) and displayed. Then onto the games and food!

I would personally rather spend two hours watching someone open presents than spend two hours playing “guess what kind of “poopie” is on the diaper by smelling it”.  🙂

I personally think it’s awkward & I didn’t do it at my bridal shower….But I will do it at my baby shower because people really love seeing that stuff & I tihnk they expect it so I don’t want to disappoint:)
