I have tried on a lot of dresses and I only liked this one and
this one: (But this one costs more than the princess one, it is around USD$500 off the shelf, need altermation and change to a lace up back)
I think I’m firm on wearing a ball gown because of my figure. I’m starting to think it’s the belt and the lace bottom details make the dress look more ‘formal’… Maybe this one will be better?
answer to you question… If im getting the first dress, I will have it custom fit because it’s too long and probably will make the train a bit smaller so we can bustle it too 🙂

I’m not trying to match the setting but I don’t want to look weird haha
Thanks for your reply
I’ve read through everyone’s reply and now I think I know what kind of dress I’m looking for..
I will go and try a few more and think about it

Joyful2019 : Maybe I shouldn’t say it will be a woodsy wedding. It’s more of a grassy/camp wedding!
Thanks for letting me know your thoughts!

I read the theme and post and then saw the picture. It is literally a ball gown that does not remotely suit a camping style theme. Not what I was expecting at all. That dress is for a hotel. You really don’t need a train and you definitely shouldn’t be thinking about a ball gown. It will be such a pain in the ass.

As I mentioned in the comment to other bees. Other type of gowns just don’t compliment my figure..
Thanks for your thoughts though!

I think you should give other dresses a shot. All short girls are not resigned to ball gowns. Try some on or ask on here for short gals to show you their dresses. I’m pretty sure you’ll never find a ball gown that suits a camping woodland theme thought so if you’re adamant on a ball gown you’ll have to be okay with that – look for one with less bling and embellishments.

Short answer: no. It does not fit the venue and you might look alien in the woods in that dress. But, ultimately you should wear a dress that makes you feel beautiful. If there’s no other dress that gives you that feeling, then wear it with confidence!

I voted no, only because it seems like a significant dress for an outdoor woodsy wedding, but if you love it and it’s not too much then rock it!

You are hearing a lot of “no”s for very good reasons. The answer to your question is a no.
BUT does that matter? You love the big ballgown. BUY the big ballgown.
I’m getting married on a mountain and I’m wearing a knee-length, dark red, a-line dress. I’m wearing it because I want to, and because I think I look awesome in it.
Since you love this dress and it does look awesome on you – then go ahead and do you!

Girl wear the dress you love. I had a woodsy wedding and I wore a fancy designer gown and yes it snagged and got a little dirty and a bug crawled into one of the folds but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If it won’t make you sad to shake twigs out of the train, and you love it to bits, go for it. 🙂 It looks great on you and it’s clear you love the way you feel in it.
If you think it will bother you that your dress may look worse for the wear from being snagged outdoors, have you thought about a dramatic corset top and flared tulle skirt without a train? You’d get the ballgown cut with more freedom of movement.

I think the train is what makes it a poor choice for a woodsy wedding. I’d shorten the train by a lot to make it suitable. The venue looks beautiful, though!!!!!!

what if you went with seperates? a tulle skirt and a nice top?? you could still have the “fairytale princess” look and get things that fit?
Well, like everyone else I think it is very grand and formal for your venue, but I never much cared about matching dress to venue anyway!
From your posts I think you love it and want to wear it and that is the only real criterion I would go with . A pp mentioned the dress-protecting piece of fabric under the train and that is an excellent idea. I would also not wear that big blingy belt with it . I think its too much for the dress and in any case cuts you unflatteringly in half.
A grand statement dress – and why not !!!

Thank you all for your reply 🙂 I have read all your comments and I appreciate it!
I don’t think I’m actually trying to “match” the setting, I just don’t want to look weird on my big day. I tried on so many dresses so I was lost! I think it’s also the lighting in the fitting room makes the lace details pop so much (looks very sharp) which makes you all think it’s a VERY FORMAL dress.
How’s the dress look in this photo?
I had a thought about how the dress made me feel on that day when I put it on.. It was wonderful and it sparks in a not over-the-top way. It also fits me nicely and feels confortable. This dress is very light!
The good news is that I found out there is a store that’s in my city got exact the same dress and I contact them. Turned out the owner of this shop is the designer of this dress. ALSO they sell this dress second hand (been rented out only 2 times) for US$200 and brand new for US$317!! OH MY..
I’ll be trying this dress again tomorrow and discuss about the alternation. I will make sure to have it made to just floor length at the front plus maybe shorten the train OR ask how they can bustle it so it’s not dragging on the floor. The shop is owned by the designer himself so he should knows these very well! 🙂
I haven’t decide THE dress yet. But looking at these photos make me think of a princess walking out from the forest! I will be doing more dress shopping this week at other shops. Don’t know what I’ll end up getting.. We’ll see!
Maybe I could buy a floor-length reception dress? I found these and I could rent them for $150 for 13 days! I think it’s not a bad deal!! It is so beautiful! It is one of my wedding colour aka my fav colour!!
Aren’t these just georgous?
