Hi all! Like many of you I’m trying to keep my wedding costs down, but when you live in SF and are getting married in Malibu that is VERY hard. I’m doing a few things myself and after getting my first floral estimate (YIKES!), I decided to do my own floral. And when I say floral, I mean EVERYTHING! So today I went out and bought a bunch of flowers and a pedestal bowl and tried to make a centerpiece. I’d love some honest opinions and feedback. I think I can get better with practice and the right tools (I didn’t even have floral tape or foam!), but in case I don’t, do you think this one would be good enough for the actual wedding? Thanks so much!
I actually think those look pretty good for your first time! You don’t actually have to have foam or tape for your table arrangements. You will need tape for your bouquet, I’ve bought it at Hobby Lobby before and ordered it off of amazon. You may want to buy some Allum (a pickling spice) for your hydrangeas, it helps them last longer. You just make your angled cut, dip in Allum and put in the water.
esaints2: Looks beautiful, basically professional! Although you might want to designate someone to do them the day of, could be a lot of work depending how big your wedding is.
Thanks so much for the feedback so far! We’re having about 100 guests so hopefully just 10 tables for these big centerpieces. I’ll likely just use stem vases elsewhere because these centerpieces seem to be a HUGE undertaking. So far I’ve recruiting my fmil, moh, bridesman and mom to help out the day before. I’m hoping that will be enough. :/
beautiful!! Just curious, did you know what you were doing ahead of time? I’m DIYing mine as well and am slightly concerned I might jack it up. Was it easy?
I think it looks nice, but big! I’d be concerned about the time and cost to do 10 of those plus bouquets. If it were me, I’d probably try to find some smaller vases and/or make them a little less full.
coffeedrinker: I didn’t have a clue. I just made an inspiration board on Pinterest and then decided on the flowers I’d use. I don’t think it was hard and it took me about 45 minutes. I don’t have proper floral shears or anything so I think it took longer than it will the second time around. I think what made it easy was using a lot of hydrangeas to create a base and then just filling the holes with roses and baby’s breath.
