I wouldn’t DIY invitations. you can get very cheap invites online that have some personalization..but it’s not like you’re having to figure out the formatting and design, which is difficult if you aren’t trained in that area.

You don’t need favors.

I would DIY decorations, because I’m good at that kinda stuff and because I feel like it’s more rewarding and not as complex as invites.

FahKit:  Hm, that’s a very interesting idea. I haven’t been in that situation so can’t say what I would do. Three potential concerns that come to mind though, are:

  1. Usually brides choose DIY because they are trying to stay within a budget. Since the materials will have taken up the whole budget, they aren’t likely to have much money left to pay someone else to finish the job.
  2. They are likely to stay optimistic, thinking they can finish it themseles, right up until the end. I would be worried about having to take on a project with such a tight deadline.
  3. What if they tried to do something REALLY ambitious, that can’t reasonably be done within the price and timeline they want? Your choice would be to either accept the job and run a high risk of failing, or decline it and risk them still giving you a negative review because you wouldn’t even try.

Maybe other brides can comment on whether these are valid concerns or not. I would never want to discourage someone from taking a risk and reaching for their dream, but encourage you to consider all factors. Congratulations on your wedding, and good luck with your endeavors!

I think it might defeat the purpose of attempting to DIY stuff in the first place. From what I’ve seen, and personally speaking, people tend to DIY stuff to save money. Sending that stuff out and paying someone else to finish it….doesn’t save money.

FahKit:  no. i’d have trouble passing my artwork off for someone else to finish. it wouldn’t make sense and i wouldn’t trust them to complete my vision.  i’d rather just have someone do the whole thing for the start. i’m sure if you plan and manage your time, you’ll be able to get your DIY stuff done in time.

plus the logistics would be impossible to figure out. unless you work locally, having to mail everything around will take a lot of time and money. and it will be hard to gauge how much you should charge for each project.

FahKit:  as someone already mentioned, DIY brides as usually more cautious of their budget. I think theyd be more likely to scrap an idea than pay more for someone else to finish it.

if I were to hand off a project id also want constant updates. Pictures of the progress. It could get annoying for you and frustrating to the bride of she wants an update and it’s not done and she says she could have done it in that time and wants to take it back.

Personally, I wouldn’t hire someone to finish my DIY projects no matter how much of a time crunch I was in. I would either bust my butt to get them done, enlist in family/friend help, or scrap some of the projects. But spending more money at the last second? Not for me personally.

I don’t think this is a good idea. Simply because most DIY brides do it to save money, otherwise they’d just go out and buy what they wanted. [I was a DIY bride, and not everything saved TONS of money, but even a few dollars saved adds when you have 50+ guests].

FahKit:  I don’t actually have any idea how I would feel about this, as my wedding is almost a year and a half out so I am enjoying the illusion of TONS OF TIME. However, commenting to add that your username is amazing.
