Lol this is ridiculous! I mean you are perfectly reasonable but your friends and mom are being ridiculous! This should be between you and your Fiance. I am technically being upgraded after only 4 months (with a stone I inherited and a new setting, but still). Just ignore everyone else- they are definitely just jealous. Some people are sentimental and others are not but they shouldn’t be judging you for not being super attached to some rock. Try to imagine them turning down a beautiful new diamond ring that their loving SO wants them to have- yeah right!

Upgrading is common. Tell your family to BUTT OUT!

@Floridagirl2010:I am very sentimental. I plan on keeping the original first ring I got from him and wearing it on my right hand. And I know for a fact the women I know and love would NEVER turn down a shiny new diamond even if it was the size of a baseball =)
What irritates me is that people just don’t get that this was HIS idea. I would never have told him that I didin’t like the ring even if I hated it.Our whole point is to get married with a symbol of where we are in our lives, of how far we’ve come. I think its so sweet that he cares about what the symbol of our rings can be.
But you all are right. I don’t think I’ll be talking to the friends and family about this anymore. They just totally don’t get my excitement, and I’m sick of them all being downers.
Thanks so much for the support ladies!!!!!

That’s so sweet that your Fiance wants to buy you a new ring.
Maybe you colour just tell them a little white lie and say that he bought it by himself and surprised you with it?? Then if they have anything bad to say then you know that they are jealous and catty!
Also, if its a sentimental thing then maybe he could propose again with the new ring?? Then it would be special for you both
