I honestly haven’t heard of ovulating that soon after your period. I’m not saying it’s impossible, just was under the impression it was a lot later in the cycle… but like your doc said keep having sex! I wouldn’t seek another doc just yet, she might just think it’s too soon and not want you to get your hopes up.

Good luck to you. Join us on the September POAS board if you haven’t already. Lots of helpful and supportive women there.

Oh and here’s a link to the abbreviations used: http://wiki.weddingbee.com/Abbreviations I found them helpful in the beginning. 🙂

Hmm. Do you also chart your temps? That could help you verify whether or not the ovulation tests are working for you.

I wonder if maybe you didn’t really have a period on the 3rd through the 6th – maybe you didn’t ovulate at all last month, and that was just breakthrough bleeding. If so, maybe that would make the timing of ovulating on the 7th more feasible. (If that truly was the case, don’t worry! It’s not uncommon for women to have the occasional anovulatory cycle.)

My two cents on this either way is that your doc didn’t sound like she had great bedside manner. I might shop around for another one, unless you still feel comfortable with her.

It does seem highly unlikely (but not completely impossible) that you would ovulate on day 8 of your cycle… But then this is why sex ed taught girls that you can get pregnant while having a period, because there are rare cases where it can happen.

It is also possible that you have faulty opks, OR that you had a hormone surge that showed up, but that you haven’t actually ovulated yet (they only predict that ovulation will occur soon, but don’t guarantee it)

Either way, continuing to have sex every couple of days for the next couple of weeks will certainly not be harmful to a potential pregnancy, so her advice can’t hurt.

@Cantstartafire1:  I didn’t take an ovulation test when I got pregnant, but I have a short cycle and got pregnant with 4 days of the last day of my period. I guess it would have been 8 days after the first day of my period. I would follow your opk and grain of salt to what the dr said. Good luck!
