So I’ve mentioned in other threads that I’ve never been excited about the prospect of dress shopping. Which had a lot to do with my rather quick decision to buy a dress at J Crew online. Well, a few months have passed and I’m starting to have some pretty serious dress regret. I love the dress – it’s gorgeous on the model, and pretty much everything I wanted in a dress (aside from the big issue of it being strapless). Well, as you can guess, I don’t look like a model, so every time I try on the dress, I feel less confident about how I look in it. I also know, should I keep the dress, I will need to have it altered (either to add straps or just generally make it fit better because it slips down whenever I move).
Anyhoo, I’ve found another dress online that I’ve fallen in love with and I’m not sure what to do, as it’s too late to return the dress I already have to J Crew. So, ladies, which do you like better – the J Crew Taryn, which will need to be altered, or the Flyaway Tiers dress from The Limited?

Personally I love and prefer the JCrew one- it looks a bit more elegant and romantic. Good luck!

I love the Taryn dress. That’s probably because I love simple strapless dresses and I also feel like the second one has a bit more going on. It is also my opinion that you could probably accessorize the Taryn better due to its simplicity.

Much prefer the first one, though these types of posts are hard without seeing the dress on the person. Other than the straps (which can easily be added to the first one) is there a reason you think the Limited dress will be more flattering? I actually feel like that dress would be hard to pull off b/c of the draping and all of the tiers, unless you are very thin.

Just wanted to say I went against everyone’s suggestion and bought the tiered dress — and I absolutely love it! And I called J Crew and they’re letting me return the other one! So happy!

I just ordered a Limited Flyaway dress, and got it for $47. If it looks even remotely good, I am so excited about scoring such am unbelievably cheap dress. I think it’s beautiful, and plan to make a lovely necklace to go with it. Hurray for an inexpensive dress made of good material!
