So it seems the best thing to do for storing a dress for a long period of time, our wedding isn’t until Oct. of 2011, is to wrap it in a cotton sheet and put it in a box so the dress is laying flat. They say if you hang it up it can pull on the beading, loosen it etc. But I’m wondering if maybe that isn’t the best for my dress, or at least doesn’t apply. The beading on my dress is around the waist only and I wouldn’t think hanging it would really pull on the beading at all. Pics below.
To me stuffing it to a point in a box seems not as good for it than hanging it up where there’s not a chance of permanant creases etc. I would still put the cotton sheets over it instead of the plastic bag though. The fabric of my dress is silk/cotton faille.
Any thoughts or experience on this?? Thanks in advance!

I hung my dress by the fabric string things at my mom’s house. We had the bag fully open and a white cotton sheet loosely draped around to provide a barrier between the dress and the bag.

I hung mine in our guestoom with a sheet around it to cover it. I would not have stored it in a box either.

What’s the reason for the white cotton sheet? Just curious.

I was wondering the exact same thing. My wedding isnt til oct 2011 either and I already have my dress. I have read all same things you have and I think I decided to just hang it up and wrap it in a cotton sheet bc like yours I dnt have bead work to damage either.
btw: I love your dress on you, it looks soooo soooo amazing and I have a little dress envy =)

Thanks for the help ladies! I took it out of the box, hung it up and made a makeshift bag out of the white cotton sheets. I feel better it’s that way instead of in the box.
@MsInterpret – Well white is obviously cause you don’t want color on your dress, but they say cotton sheet instead of a plastic bag as a plastic bag can cause wetness or mildew etc. whereas the cotton doesn’t and it’s more breathable. Something on those lines.
@shannon1126 – Yeah I think ours will be fine that way, fingers friggin crossed at least! Well that’s not me in the dress, I bought the dress from another bride, it was a tad bit tight so didn’t want to take pics yet, I will in a month or so though. I remember your dress though and it’s beautiful btw, congrats! My dress is a size 6 and she had it taken in a decent amount, so needless to say I’ve been working out like crazy for the last 3 weeks cause I want to try it on again and take pics to show! Hopefully it will look as good on me as the girl in it on my pics! I almost think that girl, while she looks beautiful in it, is maybe a little too skinny minnie, but JMO:)

I’ve read that the plastic bag can cause yellowing.
