My husband and I just bought a house and will be getting a new bed for the master, so we’re looking for bedding. I’m generally drawn toward both casual and slightly more modern bedding, and I also love bright colors.
One of the options I like is this bluish-aqua & white duvet cover from West Elm. Although, if we go with this, I really don’t know what color to paint the walls.
Another option I’ve considered is just buying a plain white duvet cover and adding in splashes of color elsewhere (throw pillows, wall, etc.).
So, now I’m throwing this out to you guys. Opinions on the two options I’ve given? Suggestions for other types of bedding? The only requirement is that we really want a duvet cover and not a regular comforter. Thanks!

Before I moved in with Darling Husband, I had all crisp white bedding and it was like climbing into a fluffy cloud every night! My walls were painted a dusky lavender. I really liked the white but Darling Husband (then my boyfriend) wasn’t as into it so our bedding now is chocolate brown and dark purple.
Point is, I think plain white is really nice. But I also really like the duvet you linked to. I could see that with maybe a very pale gray wall color and pops of color throughout the room in the form of accessories, drapes, etc.

I love white bedding.
But I do not love to clean. And well…Darling Husband is a sweaty stinky guy. We had white bedding and the thing is not only do you have to wash it, but you also have to treat it (we used a process called “bluing” to take out the dingyness. And we still had to get it replaced roughly every 8 months or so.
I’m sorry to go here, but you’re young. You have a period, you have sex, your sheets get a kind of work-out. What we found is that light bedding shows dirt and blood and sweat; dark bedding shows…fluid (sorry, I know). Pattern is the best bet for every day use, I’ve found.

@iheartnerds: The light grey wall color is a great option! That’s definitely one I’ll consider.
@BothCoasts: My only hesitation with the white was exactly what you just described! I was wondering how practical it would be.

I love love LOVE all white bedding. If you do not have children, or pets that sleep on the bed, it’s a great idea.

Love that bedding! That was one I wanted but I ended up getting a similar one from overstock.com for less! I would probably do a light grey as well. I love the way grey and blue look together. 🙂

I love all-white bedding AND the option you showed us. I think a heather-grey or beige wall would compliment and add a bit of masculine energy to the room. (for him)
The bedding I’m using right now is white pillows and sheets and a tomato red duvet cover. I love colour!

I love white bedding. We had white sheets and a couple different duvet covers. Then I bought a new bedding set in greens and purples and the sheets are cream coloured.
The nice thing going all white is you can easily change the look with different pillows and accessories in your room.

The consensus seems to be toward white bedding, although now I’m starting to think that it might not be super practical.
@SpartyOn: See, that’s the problem…we have a pet that likes to crawl in bed with us, and we hope to have kids in the next year or two…
Thanks for your opinions! I’m also open to other suggestions if anyone has them. 🙂

I am loving your all white comforter idea and you can always change out the decorative pillows depending on what time of the year it is! brights for spring and summer and neutrals/earthy tones for fall/winter etc. I love the idea!
This is what I have currently, but I buy whats on sale at like home goods or TJ Maxx and switch them out at least several times a year for fun.
lighter colors for spring/summer:

We have all white bedding and I love it. We have chocolate brown walls right now, but if the mood strikes me, I could change the walls to blue or purple or whatever! We have two cats. They do get on the bed and they do leave spots sometimes, but that’s honestly why I chose white. We wash our bedding weekly and I can just bleach it or put a stain remover on the spot without worrying whether it will mess up the color like it did when we had a blue comforter.

I really like the West Elm one you linked to and think it would look great with light gray walls.
I think white bedding looks nice but I don’t find it to be very practical.

Thanks for your opinions everyone! I think I have decided on the West Elm bedding. As much as I love the idea of white, I think it may not be practical. I may do that for our guest room instead as it will get less use!

<3 that west elm bedding, so pretty. White is nice to look at too but it shows every little thing!

I love the first set from West Elm! But I know how hard it is to find good bedding that fits both of your personalities… Our bedding took FOREVER to find and when we did it was on clearance so we had to decide quick before it disappeared!
If you aren’t 100% then wait it out until you find what you love! 🙂
ETA a picture of our bedding: (sorry it’s from my blog…)
