Hello Weddingbee brides! 🙂
This is my first post after having spent many hours lurking over a several year period!
I’m in the midst of dress shopping, and I’m currently torn between these two dresses. The first is a a beautiful darker ivory A-line in satin with very unique embroidery:
This was the style, fabric and color I was looking for. It hits pretty much all the notes. But then I tried on this one:
The second, a more traditional lace and tulle ballgown, came at me totally out of left-field — I didn’t expect to love it, because it wasn’t the idea I had developed around my look…but it’s the first dress I’ve really felt some of that ‘bridal magic’ in! It’s very romantic.
Note – Both should be slightly better fitted at the bodice than they appear (took some clips out/loosened the corset when these were taken).
Would really love any thoughts or opinions anyone could offer!

I voted the satin gown because I feel like the bottom of the 2nd dress seems too..heavy. Maybe if you removed some layers?
The first gown flatters your body beautifully!

I can see why you like the second gown, it’s very whimsical, but I agree with the PP that it’s too poofy or something. The first gown is a different sort of feel, but it truly fits you beautifully!

Oh the lace and tulle just makes you look so beautiful! I love how it fits your body. I’m not a satin fan at all, it reminds me of prom :/

Ur waist is tiny in dress two andddd I love tulle lol

@lauraashley09: Thank you so much! The consultant did show me how the second dress would look with a little less ‘poof’ so that’s definitely an option! I am also curious now as to how the satin dress might look with a poofier crinoline, too. 🙂
@RnR: That is a great descriptor, whimsical – thank you! And thank you very much for your sweet words. 🙂
@chanara: Oh thank you! Hmm, interesting thoughts. I really loved the ethereal feel with the lace/tulle dress! It’s sweeter than I expected I’d want to look, but I’m kinda loving it all the same!
@MrsRichard: Ahhh, yes! I loved my waist in the second dress. Thanks!
@AlwaysSunny: Thank you so much! I definitely agree! 😀
All of you gals are super sweet! Thank you all for the feedback, I really appreciate it!
I think my fiance is playing devil’s advocate a little too hard for the satin dress, though he thinks both are beautiful choices…we are both pretty analytical, so he doesn’t fully get the ‘bridal magic feeling’ thing. (Background – we recently relocated to another state, so he’s my sole on-site shopping partner for the dress!)
It’s totally different from what I had envisioned, but I am really loving the ball gown. It’s romantic, whimsical, beautiful, lush…those really do align with what I would like my wedding to feel like, come to think of it!
I think I need to just admit that to my fiance. We are going back for a return appointment this Saturday, so we’ll see! I’m hoping to make a final decision then.
Thank you Bees! 😛

I absolutely love them both, but personally I like the 2nd one better. It screams princess and reminds me a lot of my dress.

Love th 2nd It’s so romantic and pretty and maybe just a little less puffy. as for the 1st i do love it also. but it’s like so many other dress that i see.

#2 is phenomenal, agree that a little less puff would make it perfect. Once that bodice is fitted to you it’s going to look bananas : )

@ccoll83: Thank you! Me too, on both counts! Yes it is definitely a princess dress! And I checked out your threads – your dress is gorgeous! Very princess-y too! 😀
@vandhaug2011: I definitely agree! You are right – the first is beautiful too, but it is very similar to dresses worn by many of my friends and family over the years…The 2nd dress, while ostensibly the more ‘classic’ bridal choice, feels like it might be a bit of a shake-up (at least in my social circle)! And I will definitely see about toning down the tulle so it’s a bit less poofy. Thanks!
@VioletSky: Oh, thank you so much for the kind words! I will definitely look into a little de-poofing. 😛 Ahhh, I am so excited to go back to the salon!
Thank you to everybody voting and posting! I really appreciate your feedback!
Going back on Saturday. I feel like #2 is the dress! However fiance and I agreed to try on a couple different natural waist ball gowns at the follow-up, just to confirm that this is it, and that I didn’t just fall for that particular style; it was the first I have tried on. (I had tried on several drop waist ballgowns, but in my case, drop waist gowns have not flattered my hips.)

@Blondehorizon: wow i could not choose ; O) they both look so beautiful on you. i dont think you could choose wrong with the dresses.
It’s very hard to tell since it seems like the first dress fits better than the second dress.
I do love the first, but I think the second dress could be just as great if the proper alterations would be done.

@Blondehorizon: Both are pretty dresses but I do love the 2nd one more. It creates a much more defined waist on you, really giving you an hourglass figure. If you ever watched “What not to wear” stacy would be yelling at you “look at that freaking tiny waist” 😛
I know the feeling of falling in love with a dress you didn’t picture. I did the same thing, always thought I hated ball gowns, but ended up with one (though I’m removing some of the under crinoline)

The 2nd one is very flattering!
