I didn’t know where to put this and the beauty section is under wedding related, which this is not, so my apologies if this is in the wrong spot!
I have very long, straight, fine, boring hair. Right now it’s about mid to lower back but I do have some dead ends that I need to get trimmed. I’ve been dreaming about doing a pixie for years but have never had the guts to do it before.
Here are the kind of pixie styles I’d be looking at: http://imgur.com/a/cTaAK I would want something longer on top that’s kind of versatile and can be worn sleeker, or faux-hawked, or messy, with vintage headbands, etc.
Here’s some recent pictures of me with my hair up, down, and with and without my glasses. (Sorry in advance for potato quality & bad cropping out of the hubby lol): http://imgur.com/a/ng07s
My hair is nice, but it’s just boring. I throw it up 90% of the time anyways because I can’t do anything with it (I’m a bit hair challenged). I’m so used to having a curtain of hair to hide behind I think it would be freeing to experience chopping it all off.
For the 2nd part of my question: Does anyone know of hair donation programs that take colored hair? I haven’t dyed my hair in around a year, and it was few and far between before that, however, I used to dye my hair fairly regularly and my hair grows very slow so I know all the color hasn’t grown out yet. It’s in good condition otherwise – all I do is wash, condition, detangle and air dry so I don’t use heat tools or anything other than a few times for weddings or special occasions.
Thanks in advance!

If you have extremely straight, boring hair. Most likely it’s going to end up like mine if you don’t blowdry it, even after cutting it short. It’ll still be straight boring (short) hair. I might go easy on the layers though if your hair tends to frizz easily. A soft one length look might not be too bad since it fakes volume. How about trying a long bob first and if you’re happy, slowly creep up the length?

I definitely think you can pull of a pixie. After months of stalking pintrest pixie boards…I took the plunge and got a pixie. I love it and it’s so low maintenance:

You can def pull it off!
as far as donation, speak to the individual programs. One of my friends regularly donates and does not color her hair for that reason.

That’s true! My thoughts were that it might be easier to get some lift and style if there’s not so much for me to battle lol. I’m totally open to learning to blow dry and style it, I’ve just kind of given up with my current hair.
I had a choppy bob in high school and didn’t care for it, though other people like it a lot. If I’m going to do it, I think I’d almost rather go big or go home with it because if I just do a bob and then don’t like it I’ll chicken out and just grow it out right away again.

I think you can pull it off! If you are unsure though you could always try a long fringe style and shorten from there. I know someone who donated to Little Princesses and they accept hair that is dyed as long as it is a natural colour so brown would be fine.

LOVE your hair! It really suits you! I wish I had curls
Thank you! If I had known I was going to donate it I probably would have held off, but I started growing it out when my anxiety got especially bad and I kind of just gave up. I’ve recently gotten my anxiety, depression, and adhd under control and have changed a lot and I feel like it’s just time for a confident, bold, new me. My husband is totally on board, my family thinks it would be fun, and I’m not so obsessed now with what people think of me.

Awesome I’ll check that out! Yes it’s colored but very very close to my natural color. I just used to dye it medium brown to take some of the ashiness out.

I think you should do it! I have a friend with a haircut similar to the one you posted and a similar face shape to you and she looks great.

I think a pixie would suit you! I went from waist length hair to a lob last year and it was one of the best hair decisions ever, I feel so much more “me” now. Highly recommend taking the plunge 🙂

I think you can pull it off. That said, I’m gonna go against the grain as someone who had a pixie once. They take YEARS to grow out, and it’s hard to avoid some really akward growing out stages that last for months. Though I think I pulled it off and it looked cute, it also just made me FEEL unattractive and soccer mom-y. So… I’d advise against it personally, or at lest recommend that you really think about it, go to a stylist you trust 100%, and are committed to having it as a long term cut.

I would order a pixie wig first and try it out.

Thanks for all the suggestions and opinions!
How long did it take you to grow it back to say, shoulder length? That is one of my concerns as my hair grows fairly slowly.
I thought about doing that! But since my hair is so long (and I have no idea how to wear a wig) I don’t know if it’d give me an accurate idea or not

I think you have the perfect face for a pixie! Like others have said it’s a huge commitment though, so I guess follow your heart on that lol.
As for hair donation – I spent F O R E V E R looking for a place that 1. doesn’t charge people for the wigs they make; 2. takes color treated hair; and 3. accepts a short-ish length (which won’t be the case for you going to a pixie and I ended up with 12 inches to get rid of so idk what I was worried about).
Looking within that criteria, I finally settled on Children With Hair Loss. I’d look into them!
