If the song has meaning to you and reminds you of him, then go ahead and use it. Generally though, a love song should not be used for a father/daughter dance as it does imply an inappropriate relationship. But the truth of the matter is that no one will be analyzing the lyrics, if they are even paying any attention to them in the first place.

I agree that it is a romatic song- but I think it wouldn’t be wierd or inappropriate- its not all lovey-sappy.  I think you should use it if you want to.

I think the first half of the song is fine.. but the lyrics below make me a little uncomfortable.

Maybe this won’t last very long
But you feel so right
And I could be wrong
Maybe I’ve been hoping too hard
But I’ve gone this far
And it’s more than I hoped for

Who knows how much further we’ll go on
Maybe I’ll be sorry when you’re gone
I’ll take my chances
I forgot how nice romance is
I haven’t been there for the longest time

I had second thoughts at the start
I said to myself
Hold on to your heart
Now I know the woman that you are
You’re wonderful so far
And it’s more than I hoped for

I don’t care what consequence it brings
I have been a fool for lesser things
I want you so bad
I think you ought to know that
I intend to hold you for the longest time

Perhaps you could pick another Billy Joel song?  My dad loves Carole King and her music makes me think of her so I just went through her song to find out that was appropriate.. we went with “You’ve Got a Friend”
