Hi there. I’m in the middle of writing my own ceremony for a non religious wedding and I was hoping to get some feedback since I really don’t know what I am doing! I looked online for most of my inspiration and have cut and pasted and sometimes slightly altered other ceremony samples I’ve found online. I’d love to credit the sites/people I’ve used for help, but I have no idea how, and there were a lot! Anyway, here it is. I’d appreciate it if you let me know what you think!
(My big sister will be marrying us, and we are still working together on an opening)
Welcome/Introduction:
working on it
Statement of Intent:
Officiant:
A successful marriage is not something that just happens. It takes work, it takes patience, and it takes time. It takes a commitment from both of you…a commitment to do whatever it takes to make your relationship thrive and not just simply survive.
JD, do you promise JB that you will love her for today and all of your tomorrows? And that from this day forward, you will faithfully walk beside her?
I will
Officiant:
JB, do you promise JD that you will love him for today and for all of your tomorrows? And that from this day forward you will faithfully walk beside him?
I will
Vows:
Officiant:
The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things that we’ve promised, and hoped, and dreamed – well, I meant it all, every word.”
Take a minute to look at one another and remember this moment in time. Shortly you will say your vows and things between you will never quite be the same. For after today you will say to the world “This is my husband.” “This is my wife.”
At this time I’d like you to take each others hands, turn to each other and say your vows.
JB:
JD, I take you to be my best friend, my faithful partner, and my one true love. I promise to love you in good times and bad, when life seems easy and when it seems hard, when our love is simple and when it is an effort. As your partner in life I will share your joys and your sorrows, your laughter and your tears. Through all of the changes that life will bring, I promise you this: I will love you always.

Exchanging Rings:
Officiant:
This is the point in the ceremony when people usually talk about the wedding bands being a perfect circle, having no beginning and no end. But we all know that these rings have a beginning. Rock is dug up from the earth. Metals are liquefied in a furnace at a thousand degrees. The hot metal is forged, cooled, and painstakingly polished. Something beautiful made from raw elements. Love is like that. It comes from humble beginnings, made my imperfect beings. It is the process of making something beautiful where there was once nothing at all.
The promises which you have spoken to each other today are inscribed forever in your minds, in your hearts. But words are fleeting, so let these rings serve as a reminder of the feelings you have in your hearts at this very moment. When you look at your wedding band, remember the great gift that you have been given and all that you have in one another.
Can we have the rings please?
JB With this ring, I give you me. And a promise that from this day forward you will not walk alone. May my heart be your shelter and my arms be your home.
JD: With this ring, I give you me. And a promise that from this day forward you will not walk alone. May my heart be your shelter and my arms be your home.
Blessing
Officiant:
At this time, the groom’s dad would like to come up and say a blessing for this marriage.
(Will be the traditional 7 Jewish Blessings)
Closing:
Officiant:
It is my joyful responsibility to officially acknowledge your union as husband and wife. You may now seal your marriage with a kiss.
It is my privilege to present to you Mr. and Mrs. D
