I bought a bunch online last year, we were going to TTC last spring so I stopped my bc and started testing and tracking my cycle.   I freaked out when it came time to actually start trying, but yes, the test strips do work.   The one thing you have to remember is that in this case, a line is not necessarily a positive like a pregnancy test.    The line has to be as dark or darker than the control line for the test to be positive for lh surge.

Check out the Wondfos on Amazon.  I bought 100 OPK and 20 preg test pack for like $25.  They get annoying when the line is close, but a lot of people get the digital smily face ones to double check if that happens.  Otherwise they’re pretty easy to read and priced great.

@mrsw5711:  I order my OPK’s online. I LOVE them because they give me the best idea of when to BD, whereas with temping I can only hope that I had good timing. Check out early-pregnancy-tests.com or amazon (wondfo) and they are much more affordable!

What I do is test 1-2 times a day until I think I’m close to O, then I test 2-3 times per day. When I think my OPK is positive, I take a Clear Blue Easy Digital OPK to confirm that I am in fact in my surge. It can be kinda hard to read those sometimes.

I combine OPKs that I bought online (waaaaay cheaper) with an account on fertility friend dot com. I am 7 months pregnant with baby #2 so recommend this route!!! I knew nothing about charting or how to maximize your chances when I started out. Good luck!!

@mrsw5711:  I used OPKs for two months before TTC, so I could get a hang of them. It’s great when you get a clear positive! I tested everyday at 2pm from CD 11 – CD 16 usually, since I regularly ovulate on CD 14 or 15. I used the mid-stream ones, since they were easier to use while at work.

I purchased mine online and even with tax and shipping they were a bit less than $2 each. I used this method in conjunction with checking my cervical mucous, which really is the most effective evidence that you are fertile. (i’m now 5 weeks)

    good luck!

Absolutely yes. I think these helped a lot, since I knew when I should be BDing (since I didn’t temp so I wouldn’t know when I ovulated otherwise). I recommend the wondfos 🙂

OPKs are a great help, when used in conjunction with temperature charting. i wouldn’t recommend using them on their own with nothing else.

also when you get to know your cycle, you will know when to start OPK testing more often so you don’t miss your surge.

I got a package of wondfos (100 OPK and 20 HPT) for $14 on amazon. great deal.

Yes, definitely worth it!  I bought some Walgreens OPKs and got a shipment of Wondfo’s from Amazon like a week later, and I actually like the super cheap Wondfo’s better because they must have a “higher” LH sensitivity than the Walgreens, because I got multiple days of +’s on the Walgreens sticks, and way less but still definitive with the Wondfos. This month, I only used Wondfo OPKs, and the “sperm meets egg plan” guidelines of BDing every other day for first part of your cycle, the every day for three days on the day you get a + OPK, skip a day, then one more day (just got my BFP this morning).  The 2 months I used OPKs I got my temp shift TWO days after my first positive, so you definitely want to BD for the three days in a row if you use them.  Good luck! 🙂
