OK so i started OPKs this month (i just got off bcp 12/31). I have been using the wondfo cheapies and testing 1-2 times a day since CD10. I have not gotten a positive yet, my results have been as follows:
CD10 no test line
CD11 test line pretty light still
CD 12 2PM: test line getting darker
CD 12 7pm: test line almost as dark as control
CD 13 11am: line darkness somewhere between CD12 2pm and CD12 7pm
CD 13 6pm: almost as dark as control, similar to CD12 7pm
CD 14 lighter test line both tests
CD 15 no test line
CD 16 barely there test line
CD 17 no test line
SO I realize that there’s a good chance i’m not ovulating yet off bcp (and my history tells me it could take a while). but i’m wondering if i should continue with the daily OPKs when i’m seeing zero test line at this point.
As for other signs, i’m new to all this, so i don’t know how well i’m evaluating things, but i started to get wet CM around CD13 and then on CD15 was a bit dryer. i THOUGHT i may have had EWCM around then, but, um, still working on telling the difference between that and DH’s deposits! i thought i felt some pain on 1 side around CD11 but i dont know if that was really O pain. I’m not temping yet, so can’t provide any real charting info.
Would love some advice here – did i miss my surge? or did i just not ovulate and the darker test lines mean nothing? i know i can’t know for sure, i just don’t want to continue with the OPKs every day if i actually already O’d! (sorry i didn’t take any pics!)

@esqbee: Without temping, there’s really no way to know for sure. If I was in your shoes, I would continue to test until your period comes and then consider trying temping next cycle. Unless you got lucky this month!! =)
ETA: I definitely don’t think Wondfo’s suck though. They work for me. How I do it though is once they get dark like they did on CD13 for you, I confirm with a Clear Blue Easy Digital OPK.

@esqbee: It’s definitely possible that you missed your surge, tho.

I second everything ChuckNorris said. Just from looking at your opk and cm, it looks like you o’d CD13 or 14, but without temps, you can’t be sure.

What Haley and Chuck said! I would keep track … if you get your period in about two weeks, you probably ovulated — or at least, your body tried to ovulate.

OPKs are tricky! I wonder if you possibly just drank a bunch of water and had more dilute urine at your CD13 morning test…that’s my guess, especially given possibility of EWCM. The problem is that OPKs only predict that you’re gearing up for ovulation, not that it actually happened or not, so it’s impossible to tell if you actually did. Temping is a little annoying but so useful for knowing what happened!

OPKs never gave me a clear answer. I would get a positive smily face OPK on day 13 or 14 but wouldn’t ovulate until day 21 (confirmed by temping and another positive OPK). You could keep testing to be sure but temping next cycle would give you confirmation and peace of mind.

@ChuckNorris: Thanks! Yes, I know I should temp but I was hoping to wait a few months to start so we could keep things a little more low key for the time being. I thought I’d see if I could get a sense of what’s going on with the opks and other signs. And I’m kicking myself for not picking up some other opks to check against last week! But I’m glad to hear the wondfos are reliable. My body is not! Ha
@HayleyJane: Ha yea thats kinda what I was thinking. May have but can’t be sure because I’m stubborn about temping!
@bunny: I sorta thought that – that my body was trying to but may not have. I just need to be patient I guess!
@ahavah: Yes, I’m a waterholic! I drink and pee allllll day long. I also exercise a lot, so water is a necessity. I was thinking I’d drop the midday test for now because I drink so much during the day and just test after work when I find it easier to control my intake. Opks are tough!
@fsowife: So maybe they just don’t work for some people? I know they are not infallible. But does everyone produce the requisite lh prior to releasing an egg? There have to be exceptions and I’m guessing you can still ovulate without it…ah so much to learn about this process!

OK you guys convinced me…i’ve taken a first step and bought a BBT thermometer. If i ever get AF, i’ll see about starting to temp and get a clearer picture. I’m still very hesitant about temping (i wake up much earlier than Darling Husband and he’s a very light sleeper so i don’t want to wake him up every morning by lying in bed and from the beep of the thermometer) but i realize that it’s the only way i’ll be able to have any real information to show my doc to judge whether i’m ovulating.
Thanks girls 🙂
