Newbiew at TTC (month #3) here!
I just ordered some OPK tests off of Amazon, and they should be here by Friday. I had bought some in the past, but didn’t take them at the right time to know if I was Oing. Once I get them, I plan to take a test each day (my period just ended yesterday). Call me naive… but is that what you’re supposed to do? Does it indicate anything in your fertile window, or just when you O’d?

I started testing at the end of my cycle. Read the instructions because every test will tell you a different time. One I took said every day at the same time in the afternoon and my digital said FMU. It will only tell you your LH surge not actually when you ovulate. After your surge you have a 12-24hr window. Good luck 🙂

Kacie209: Some women will see the test line gradually darken as they reach their fertile week, so in that respect that works great. But, some women see no change at all until one day BAM its positive. I think taking them daily for a couple months is a good idea. It will allow you to become familiar with when you O, so that in future months you can decide to start the OPKs later and not miss the surge. Also, be aware that some women surge later in the day so if you’re testing once a day in the morning, you’ll miss it. If your tests gradually darken, I’d recommend taking two a day as they get closer to positive so you don’t miss it.

Thank you both for the information! I have read that taking a test later in the day is better. I work until 3:30, so I plan to do it once I’m home (but not after I just drank a ton of water). I could easily do 2 when it starts to get darker.
DH and I have a small window before I may O this month due to him being out of town for hunting, so I’m crossing my fingers testing will help some before he leaves again on the 18th (projected O day is 17-30 based on past months), and coming back on the 22nd.

My suggestion is to BD every other day, not just when you get a positive OPK test. His guys live far longer then your egg does 🙂

sonyazach87: We plan on it, now that my period is done… EOD from now until he leaves again… and for sure Tuesday since he leaves Wenesday. I just wanted to test OPK as a secondary indicator. I didn’t have any fertile signs last month, like I did the month before.
He was hunting last weekend and text me from his deer stand asking when we plan to start bredding when he gets back, ha.

I use wondfos and I just test once a day with FMU. I have always caught my surge then. Mine get darker the day before a + but otherwise they remain very faint- no gradual build up. I can’t get +’s later in the day because my urine is too diluted. I think my surge starts overnight. Often times I ovulate at night following a + OPK that morning. So if I waited until my + to BD, I wouldn’t have that great of timing. I usually O on day 16-17 so I might start testing on day 14 or sometimes wait until I get fertile CM to test.

I read that some fertility experts don’t encourage people to use these kits. I am not too familiar with them, but I have seen them for sale at the store. My friend tried them and said they didn’t really work for her so she was going to stop using them. I use a free app on my phone called Ovia and it asks for your last period date and lenght in between AF. Just remember that most women ovulate 12-16 days before their next AF so with all the info I have researched it is just best to BD every other day in that window.
Good luck! It is all about timing!

kes18: That is the brand I bought, so fingers crossed. I know timing is everything, so I figure with those tests and just BDing before DH leaves again, we may have chance.
buzzingbee82: I have 2 apps – Fertility Friend and Glow, so they do help. I went of BC in September, so I know my cycles are still off. I O’d Day 26 the first cycle after (35 days cycle, which was long even for me), and then Day 13 this last one (26 day cycle). Obthe pill, I averaged a 28 day cycle.
