I have a green stone ering, but there’s this orange garnet over at Precision Gem that I’m obsessed with.  Every day I check to see if it’s still there and I swing between hoping it will be and hoping that someone bought it so the temptation can end!  I would buy it in a heartbeat, but I promised my FH I would limit myself to one jewelry project at a time while we’re planning the wedding and moving.  If it’s still around on my birthday though, it will 100% have to become mine.

xiexie :  That’s an awesome stone! What kind of project would you have in mind for it? I’ve been out and about drooling over loose stones and dreaming up projects myself lately!

spendabuck85 :  It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?  I’m having an emotional affair with it.

I want to set in a bezel for a hammered-finished RHR, either in dark oxidized silver or copper.  There’s something about it that suggests an ember burning in a fire to me, so I’d like to highlight that with a very primative-style setting.

My current project is a long sword pendant in yellow gold; another Bee very generously offered to sell me some fabulous red garnets that I want to set into the ‘blade’ part.  As soon as that’s done, on to orange!

What kind of gemstone pieces are you thinking of?

xiexie :  I’m currently thinking about having a good sized peridot, either trillion cut or a really bottom heavy pear, set upside down in a yellow gold bezel pendant. Toying with the idea of having the backside of the pendant filigreed, so that if it flips around it’ll still look interesting, but I think that might make the stone harder to keep clean. It’s not something I can really jump into head first right now, but it’s still fun to think about!

spendabuck85 :  That sounds so pretty!  I love peridot in yellow gold.  They just look like springtime!
