I’m not planning on it, but I do know a few people that have done this. A girl I know had her best friend perform the ceremony (she was in seminary school at the time) and it was so sweet. It really helped create a very intimate and personalized ceremony because the officiant knew the bride and the groom so well. I think it’s a great idea!

We had my DH’s brother get ordained for our ceremony.  He is a lawyer and a great public speaker so it was an easy choice since we were getting married outside and it was not a religious ceremony.  He did a fabulous job and was so honored to be asked to be our officiant.  He had to fill out some paperwork then go down to a courthouse to be deputized which took a few hours but it was not a bad process at all.
