We didn’t do a lot of the traditional wedding things (dance, cake cutting, etc).

We 1) Ate dinner 2) Went around and mingled 3) Did the hora (our one and only dance) and 4) Ate cake.

Usually at weddings I’ve seen they 1) First Dance 2) Eat 3) Cut the cake. I like cake cutting at the end b/c it’s dessert, I feel like it should be last.

Ours isn’t traditional but it was going to be at one point and most people (dj, officiant, etc) told us that it’s nice to do the first dance when you do your entrance because people will actually pay attention.  And I agree that the cake cutting at the end is nice since it’s dessert.

I think we’re going to come in/get announced and then cut the cake. Then we’ll eat dinner while some toasts are happening, then eat cake, then first dance/father-daughter/mother-son dances, then dance floor is open.

The reason we’re cutting the cake first is because our venue is 2 floors and people have to move downstairs to dance. So if we cut it after dinner there would be this weird lag time with nothing to do between cake cutting and eating while they were slicing it up and serving it. I want the first portion of the night to go fast so we can get to the dancing! 🙂

We’ll probably do our first dance right away to get it done with. As soon as people are mostly dine with dinner, I’d like to do the hora, because that will get people up and on the dance floor, and then hopefully they’ll keep dancing after that. Cake cutting will probably happen later on, so dessert can be a nice break from all the dancing everyone is doing 🙂
