you should get your slip now, in case it’s going to have a little more poof to your dress, it will change measurements for alterations.  In theory you should also have your shoes, but just bring another pair that is about the same height and you should be fine! As much as you already have, bring it all to your fitting! 🙂

@cherryblossomlove:  Order it soon enough so that you have it for your first fitting, that doesn’t mean you have to order it right this moment. Typically the slips (from my experience and questioning) take about 2 weeks to recieve depending on where you get it.

Ebay is a great option that many bees have used, I opted to go through my bridal salon so that I could test run a few slips before ordering.

And no you shouldn’t be doing your first and any fittings for that matter until a month to two months before the wedding in case of any weight fluctuation. However, from my personal experience I would definitely recommend going in and looking at your dress to make sure it is okay, even trying it on (no alterations) at the earliest opportunity so that if something is wrong it can be fixed with time to spare.

My bridal shop provided my slip. After my first fitting, I decided I needed a much more poofy crinoline and went with that. So from my experience I needed to reexamine the dress on me to decide what crinoline I needed for my 2nd fitting, so I had it then. The reason I went with a crinoline from the shop is just because I wanted the specific one I tried on because of the poof.

Most places require 3 months before your wedding to start alterations so I say have your slip by then.
