That’s very impressive! We actually had the opposite experience as you unfortunately- I think it was almost the exact same specs (but from JA), but the oval was seriously underwhelming. It looked tiny and yellow compared to ones we had seen at the store at the same specs. We ended up returning it and just bit the bullet at the higher priced store. But if we would have gotten one like yours we definitely would have kept it!

BriH:  ๐Ÿ™ I know I was considering a round… Lol I need to be more gutyz like how you did… hehehe yess!! Please before you have it set! Please send me more photos and videos if you can! Would really help me a lot! ๐Ÿ˜€

can u take off the ring holder and hold it loose? Or the ring holder won’t do that? Ugh I’m hoping If I go for it, I hope I get as lucky as you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

rowmyboat:  JA as in James Allen? Aren’t you able to see the video before purchasing? What do you mean by tiny?.. me as well I saw a oval same specs as OP but I was thinking this probably isn’t going to be like hers as all ovals are so different in their own way. /: lol

Daisylovex3:  Yes- it was from James Allen. We even used a website where diamond buyers help you pick out the diamond based on the pictures so you are getting the best value (and they use an affiliate link for commission). We went to a local store in our state before looking online so we had seen loose ovals in person. We literally ordered almost the same spec oval from JA (carat, color) and it seemed smaller, less sparkly, and slightly yellow compared to the one we has seen at the store.

I’m clearly no expert- but I think ovals are a little harder to purchase than rounds online because they vary so much (length to width ratio, depth, bow tie effect, etc.). I’m definitely glad that we at least tried online- but I would suggest going into it with the mindset that you might have to return it and try again. Personally, we didn’t see a huge price difference (maybe 15%?) so it was worth it to go with the local store (plus their warranty included any redipping/resizing and replacement of diamond if lost). Again- just our experience! Like the OP, we know people who had great experience and saved $$ going the online route- just have to figure out what is right for you. I think it’s just important that people realize that it’s not an automatic 50% savings for a perfect diamond going the online route. (p.s. sorry for the thread hijack and long post!)
