I need your help and opinion and advice. Thank you in advance!
I ordered my dress on August 3 of last year – so more than 10 months ago. And my dress is still not here!
Initially I wanted to go and look for bridal gowns in November but the bridal store told me that this might not be enough time for the dress to come in before our departure on May 22. (We’re having a destination wedding). So I went shopping in August. First store, first dress – everything was perfect. I experienced a great customer service! The sales person told me that I could expect my dress to be in February. And I thought that would be great and I would get plenty of time to find my accessories, shoes etc.
February past, no dress. So I called them. They said it would get there in March. March passed, no dress. So I called them again. Now they’re saying they think it should be in with their next shipment which they think would be in just before the eastern long weekend.
We’re leaving on May 22 – that is in 44 days. I have no clue how the dress will fit. The sample was about 6 sizes too big. I’m kind of starting to freak out… and here is where I need your help:
Do I have reason to be concerned or am I just overreacting??? Is this normal that it takes 11 months for a dress to come in??? (It is a Paloma Blanca in case that helps).
So far, the customer service has been great. They returned every single phone call within 24 hours, responded to all my emails, answered all my questions… but I don’t get a specific date L) And I only read good reviews about this store. I’m just so concerned that I will only have 4 weeks (at the most) to make my dress fit perfectly; or even less time if it will not be here by Eastern. What if it is not here by Eastern, what if I don’t fit in the dress?
Thank you for letting me vent and I appreciate your opinions!

I don’t think you are overreacting – I would be worried as well. But I also don’t think you should stress too much yet. I’d say call the store again and make sure they understand your concern on this issue. Even ask what happens to your deposit if it doesn’t arrive in time. Then start exploring other options – but don’t give up yet!

My dress is by Tara Keely (Lazaro), and the day after I ordered my dress, my salon called me with the approximate ship date that the designer gave them (ordered dress in November and ship date is estimated May 1)– I’m not sure if that is normal, but for me it was nice that the designer gives a specific ship date, it might be worth seeing if other Paloma Blanca brides got this same service at thier salons that I did with Tara Keely (I’d also assume all Jim Hjelm, Lazaro, Tara Keely orders would provide that ship date).
I’d definitely be concerned if I were in your shoes.

Not gonna lie – I’d be freaking out!!! I would chill till the next shipment and then if it’s not there I would for sure complain.

Yes…be concerned!! I’d be a nervous wreck. I’d also be calling them at least three times a week until they could tell me exactly where my dress was.

Oh man, I would be so distraught. Sorry you have to be going through this! Hopefully it shows up soon!

Wow! I’m so sorry. I would be freaked out as well. My dress isn’t here either but I ordered it in December and I was told it would come by the end of April (crossing fingers). Hopefully yours will come by the next shipment and it’ll be alright, but I would start thinking about other options.
I know this isn’t what you want to hear but maybe just casually browse at places or stores that can give you a sample dress or have them in stock, like David’s Bridal. I know the other one is perfect and is the one that you have been dreaming about since last August but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I don’t think it would hurt to look at other places just in case, you’re definitely not in any obligations to buy anything. If the dress comes in by the next shipment then no harm no foul!

thanks for all your advice!!!
i’m kind of glad to hear that you would feel the same way… makes me feel a little bit less crazy. on the other hand i was hoping you would say “just relax” there is still plenty of time.
I will call them tomorrow and let them about my concerns. I will request a specific date and go from there. I’m still not ready to give up on my dress!
And you know what, it kind of looks like I don’t have to!! It must sound like a joke to you… BUT it is not. I’m totally honest with you: Two minutes ago, google search put a smile on my phase: A girl is trying to sell MY DRESS (well her dress) on preownedweddingdresses. Guess what: same colour, same size, she is about the same size (height) as I am AND she even lives in the same city as I do!!!!! Now I just hope, this dress doesn’t get sold before Eastern…
Rollercoaster of emotions…
I still hope my dress gets here in time… but i will watch this listing VERY closely over the next couple of weeks!!!

Well, let me know if you want an AA 2019, size 10, in ivory that’s been taken up one inch. I have one in my closet that needs a home…

What’s Eastern? I’m confused. I would definitely call the store and tell them you need the dress in 2 weeks time or else you don’t have enough time for alterations.

Who are you talking to when you call? Are you calling the store you ordered from? If so, talk to a manager and demand answers. Find out how often they get shipments and demand the manager call the company and find out exactly where your dress is and where it is in the order flow.
Edit: I’d also call similar bridal shops in the area and ask what their time frame has been for your dress manufacturer (I’d tell them why you are asking, too!).

oops, I actually meant EASTER long weekend (so April 23/24) not easterN…
most of the times I’d talked to the store owner. she is also the one who always returns my calls. but i will call her again tomorrow and will not end the phone call unless i get detailed information. i guess, last time, i just hang up to quickly. unfortunately i can’t call other stores in my area… since this is the only stores who sells dresses from that designer…

Call me crazy but I would buy the second hand one from Preowned then sell the brand new, unaltered one with tags still on. You’re going to take a bit of a loss, but at least you can rest assured.

I would be worried. I would go to the bridal shop and demand an answer. I’ve never heard of a dress taking months to come in. Good Luck!
