Definitely give her a ring! I mean, the good news is that the dress will fit (I kind of had the opposite problem..), but like you said, you may go through multiple roudns of adjustments..

I would say they didn’t measure you because the sample size is something they felt would be best to order for your size.

If that’s not the case, and you pay for alterations by the amount done (and not a set price like most salons) then I would say she scammed you into more $$…call them back and voice your concern.

Wow, I’d be really annoyed with that. I hope you get good news when you call!

The saleswoman should have never assumed and ordered that size for you and charge you for all those items.  When I chose my dress (the sample was a 10 and too small), they immediately got the girl who does the measurements and clipboard to fill out the order sheet (it inlcluded all the measurements and what the designated size would be).  Then I paid at the front.  I tried on veils with my dress, but they never assumed that I would be purchasing those items that day.  She just told me that I could make those decisions when I’m ready for the fittings.  I would call them as soon as you can to straighten it all out.  I’m sure they can adjust the order for you.

I wouldn’t base the size you need off of the fitment of the sample dress.  She has to take the few minutes (literally it’s a few minutes and it’s usually done twice to make sure they wrote down the correct sizes) to take your measurements.  If you know the name of your designer go to their website and print out their size chart, take it with you when you get measured.  This way you can glance at your measurements and compare it to their size chart.  I know A LOT of brides that didn’t speak up for themselves and received a dress way too big … don’t let this happen to you!

I have that same dress!!! That being said, I’m a size 8, street clothes, but had to order a size 12.  It will be HUGE in my bust, but my weist measurement required it.  But definately go back in and have them measure you!!

Is your friend holding back the dress because there wasn’t enough fabric to put on clips??

This is what dress shopping usually looks like: Holding with Clips

If the reason your friend has to hold the dress is because there was only a little bit of extra fabric, then the salon lady did the right thing to order you a 12. Yes you’ll have to take it in – but what if the size 10 doesn’t fit at all? Wedding dress sizing is in its own universe so don’t compare it to your street size. Dresses aren’t usually made to your measurements, so the bust may be big on you, but if the waist is the right size for you then you have to order the 12 and have them take the bust in.

Now if the reason your friend is holding your dress is just because the store didn’t have clips, then you should call the salon lady right away. Don’t wait too long. You don’t want her to be able to say that it’s already on order and there’s nothing she can do about it.
