So I have a question and I just want to know if anyone has done anything similar or has any thoughts. If this is totally crazy and not worth the headache let me know.
I’ve been in a lot of weddings, and especially b/c I’m very short I’ve always hated being forced to wear the same dress which is always super expensive and totally unflattering. So I wanted to let my BM’s pick their cut/style. But partially b/c I’ve also been in a wedding where the bride just gave us a color family (and that turned out to be really hard) and partially b/c I don’t want to have a mix of colors, I was thinking of picking a single color and fabric and asking them to pick the dress. I had originally thought of going with something totally off the rack like JCrew or Ann Taylor. But I’m not finding colors to fit my color theme. Also, my situation is a bit more complicated b/c my sister (and MOH) will be 8 1/2 mos pregnant at my wedding.
I was looking at the Dessy Group and they have a lot of color and fabric choices and a wide range of price points. I was thinking I’d specify the color, fabric, and hem length and let my BM’s buy the dress they want. I’m a bit nervous though, b/c it’s not like they sell their own dresses. My BM’s will have to find the dress they want online or at a local bridal salon. Personally, as a Bridesmaid or Best Man, I would’ve preferred this, but everyone’s different. Do you all think this will be an unnecessary burden? We’re not having too many people (3 female attendants on my side, 2 on his…which includes both or our sisters). I will of course help them locate the dresses they want etc., but am I just asking for an extra headache? I really want everyone to look and feel good, and I think choosing the cut will facilitate that but maybe I’m projecting.
