Certain places book fast!  I would recommend booking as soon as you are confident you want to go with that particular vendor.  We waited on our transportation 3 months and the price went up!  We booked most everything right at where you are, 8-10 months.

@mrsztobee:  does your baker only do weddings? May be busy b/c of holidays?

@mrsztobee:  Booked most items a year + out because I knew this problem would exist. My Venue I booked in February 2012 and one place we looked at had our date (July 20, 2013) already booked. and normally 18 months prior is considered ‘early” so yeah, I’d put deposit down now whenever you can.

@mrsztobee:  that’s what I meant–I mentioned it because your wedding date is listed at December 21st. Good luck, though, I agree with the earlier poster who said go for it as soon as you’re sure! 🙂

@mrsztobee:  Hmm that’s weird a cake baker is already booked!! The bakery I ordered our cake from said they do multiple weddings a weekend, so I’d be surprised a bakery wouldn’t take one one more cake for a given weekend. Same thing with the florist – my florist said she books 4-5 weddings per weekend, so when I hired her at about 7 months out, she wasn’t “fully booked.”

Are you in a large city? From what I’ve read on the ‘Bee, bees in large cities sometimes have a harder time finding vendors close to their wedding date.

If I were you, I would focus on hotels next – we thought we were okay reserving a hotel block about 7-8 months out, but there was a huge conference going on our wedding weekend and all of the hotels we wanted were fully booked!! The hair and make-up is more flexible, because even if a lot of the hair/make-up stylists you contact are already booked, you can always go to a salon. And if you have an airport nearby, I’d think you could always book a limo/bus without too much notice.

i did book most of my vendors a year out actually, as i knew my venue gets booked up super quickly. then i just followed with the rest

it seems brides are doing everything earlier and earlier so might be worth choosing your vendors now, just to have the most choice!

I had all my vendors booked at 12 months.
