Ordering loose moissanite from China? India? Tell me more!

I bought loose stones from both India and starsgem. The India stone was unimpressive and I sold it. The OEC I got from starsgem was beautiful, but I ended up selling it to go bigger. Then I ended up getting a diamond, but am still thinking about getting that bigger OEC from starsgem.

For me, it was worth it. I’m not newly engaged nor a new bride, so I was less concerned with perfection and more concerned with getting a deal. I find US retail prices of moissanite to be highway robbery and was very pleasantly surprised with the China stone.

I’m not newly engaged or recently married but…my first stones were from India. They were nice but after buying loose stones from China…wow, there is a huge difference in quality. They don’t even compare. I hate to say this but the China ones are significantly better; even the Chinese “duds” I’ve seen on message boards are better than some of the nicer Indian cuts I’ve seen recently.

I’d say if you are on a budget but want something nice, try buying the full ring (stone, metal, and labor) from China. Tianyu and Starsgems are my favorites. Otherwise, you can just buy a loose stone and have it set by a jeweler, especially if you want something more elaborate or ornate. I’ve been doing that with my stones, although my next project is a little more simple, so I might ask one of the Chinese vendors to build the entire ring for me.
