@asb983:  Your weding shoes will only be required for alterations. Pretty much every dress will need to be hemmed.  Most bridal solons don’t allow you to wear shoes (dirties the floor, dirties the dresses, you can’t feel if you are stepping on the dress and are more likely to tear it).

I would bring spanx if you are considering wearing them, so you can get an idea of how any clingy dresses will look in them (sometimes spanx aren’t enough to make a girl look good in a dress, so better to find that out before you drop hundreds of dollars on it).  Otherwise wear non-skimpy underwear, because your consultant will be seeing it as she laces or zips you up. I wore boyshorts for this reason.

@asb983:  I brought heels to my dress appointments that were similar to the height of the shoes I plan on wearing during my ceremony. It gives you an idea as to whether you can order regular length, short or tall.

Also as PP posted, you may want to bring the type of undies you plan on wearing or need to wear underneath your dress to give an idea of what it looks like, if there are any seams showing, etc. If you have body issues or are more modest you may want to wear biking shorts or leggings if you dont want the consultant seeing all your business.

I wore a barely there thong to my appointments because I’m far from shy when it comes to being naked and that’s the MOST I plan to wear on my wedding day underneath my dress.

My dress was one of the few that couldn’t be hemmed (well, not without significant expense). It was all lace with a scalloped hemline. They suggested I pick my shoes beforehand since they custom order the length. I wore a mid-height heel. Since I can’t get it altered, I figured worst case I could find different shoes with a higher or lower heel if the hem wasn’t perfect. But then again, my shoes are not a big concern for me. If I was the kind of girl who obsesses about the perfect wedding shoe that might be a problem!
