Are there any occupational therapist bees around here?
I originally wanted to go to graduate school for OT.. but between going to a small chrisitan school that no one has heard of and some medical issues ive been facing lately I’m not sure if that is the right option for me. THere is an OTA program locally here that I could finish up pretty quickly. Any comments on the differences/opinions about each? Obviously, I know the different and there is a salary difference but I would like to be getting ready to start a real career.. especially before my wedding next spring!
Any bees welcome to respond or comment! I live in northeast ohio and I’m 23 if that makes a difference 🙂

I went to school for OT but have taken a leave of absence after one year to decie if it is the career for me. In Canada it’s a two year masters. I hated the program and between our wedding, buying a house and some health issues I decided a year off would help me decide. Now It’s time for me to decide if I’m going to go back and I am dreading the thought. I have several other degrees and can do what I want without my OT but if it is something you are passionate about I’d say go for it.
If you can get accepted into the program and are going to do one either way I would say go fro OT and not OTA. Where I live its an incredibly competitive program to get into and people don’t usually think about OTA as an alternative as they are very different. One is a masters program and one is a college program. One you are the boss and one you do the tasks the boss tells you to do. I’m not sure what you’re looking for but if you have any other questions feel free to ask 🙂

@Laurencw: Thanks for the reply!
I would PREFER to do OT as it is higher pay and better education. I already have a bachelors. My problem is that it is so competitive and despite meeting and going above and beyond the requirements.. I am struggling to get accepted to a program. As well as the limited numbers of programs around.
I guess i’m wondering if OT is what i really want to do, will I be satisfied doing OTA?
I’m thinking of doing OTA now and later doing an OT program down the road, though feeling between marriage and wanted kids I probably wouldn’t go back to school!
thanks for your input 🙂
