Last night (monday night) I was at work and my fiance was asleep because he works the overnight shift. it was about 8:30 pm and he was asleep before work when he heard a loud noise from the living room and voices, he jumped out of bed and went to check but there was no one there and the door was unlocked.
he thought it was possible that he forgot to lock the door but he never does, and he just went back to sleep. I came home at 11 when he had already left for work and our window was open about 8 inches. the windows were locked, we just moved in a few weeks ago and locked them when doing our first walk through…we hadnt touched them since.
so someone came into our apartment and opened the window (possibly to come back later) nothing was taken thankfully. so i literally stayed up all night and when he came home at 8 this morning we had the owners change the locks and we went and bought an alarm system.
fiance was so sweet and protective through all of it. we never called the police because we didnt feel there was a threat. but when he came home i suggested we get renters insurance to protect our things, he said he didnt care about the stuff he cared about protecting me. and at the owners office when the leasing lady, who is very nice, was very apologetic, he just kept saying that it was okay he was just worried about me.
he made me fall in love with him all over again today, and now the 6 months until the wedding seems like forever. i want to marry him right now!!

we think it was possibly the previous renters who had a spare key maybe? or some kids who live next door. you can easily see finger prints on the windowsill where the dust was distrubed from the outside.

Despite him not caring about the physical stuff, an apartment can easily be cleaned out, leaving you to replace thousands of dollars worth of stuff. Renter’s insurance only costs a couple hundred dollars a year – well worth it.

we do realize that even though we are just starting out and dont have a lot, what we do have is pricey.
I’m just overwhelmed by his reaction to all of this.

Renters insurance is stupid cheap, and if you get it from the same company as your auto insurance, you get a discount.
That is so awesome of your Fiance, I love it when men show their emotions like that 🙂 Hubby and I were outside working on the garden, and the dogs were nearby, and there was a really large wasp that kept coming around. I was a little freaked, but tried to stay calm, and he got pissed cuz it wouldn’t leave us alone. Finally, he whacked it with a rake and we didn’t see it again. He said “and that’s what you get when you mess with my family. Nothing messes with my family!” Love him <3

@MrsJM2B: Get renter’s insurance. Our car was broken into this past Saturday outside of our apartment. I lost about $2000 worth of things (I had jewerly in my purse, along with engagement gift cards), we are hoping they cover what was lost.
Btw the apartment is scary, I’m glad he’s there to protect you and is willing to. I would be a little extra careful for a while. We’ve been sleeping with chairs jammed up against the door knobs because these creeps know a lot about me now.
