Me me and fiancé decided to try to make our own wedding cake and we wanted to do a trial first. I have a lot of experience baking but always slack on the decorating so it was definitely a challenge but fun!
I used this recipe for the cake and it is delicious and dense enough to hold up to the weight of stackers.
I used this recipe for the icing but usend almond flavoring instead of vanilla http://www.wilton.com/buttercream-icing/WLRECIP-41.html
I also filled the layers with a blueberry pie filling and we are trying to decide if we want to use that or do something different with it. We definitely learned how to improve for our wedding and had a blast working on it today!
The middle tier is not my favorite but my hand got tired and I wanted something simple for that one but may just end up doing all rosettes on our actual cake.
Now for the reveal!

That’s really pretty!!! Oh I wish I could do a DIY cake, but I have zero baking and decorating skills.

I am planning on making my own wedding cake too but this one is lovely! Great job!

Beautiful job! That castle topper looks so great with it, too. I think we’re doing an almond flavored cake too, yum.

wow! So magnificently impressive and what a fun project for the two of you as well! I love the topper! So unique! Blown away by your talent! (Also sounds flipping delicious!)

ambitious! Both the creation and eating of that much cake.
One bit of constructive criticism is the borders. I might choose a continuous border (dots can be continuous !) To avoid the nipple effect (for lack of a better term.) Its a decorating pet peeve of mine, so I would probably be the only one to notice…
