It’s still sinking in but tomorrow I will go back to work an engaged woman!
Yesterday morning my now-FI took me out on a date – I had been complaining recently that I wanted us to get out more, not necessarily anywhere expensive, just out of the house and enjoying each other’s company. He took me to the beach that we consider our place and we went walking along the track to the rocks that we sit at. He was saying all these lovely things about me but we’re usually fairly soppy on our dates so I didn’t think much of it.
NZ has been having some massive storms lately and we got to a point on the track where a tree had fallen down and completely taken out the track. I was resigned to turning around and heading back but he insisted that we take a little bush-bash down to the beach and walk along the shore to our spot. We continued along the beach and got to our spot and sat on the rocks.
He told me that he had a hidden agenda for bringing me there that day and half-got down on a knee (awkward when you are perched on rocks) and asked me to marry him. It’s all a little bit of a blur but I apparently said “Of course I will”! We couldn’t stop looking at the ring the entire walk back, especially when it sparkles! It did take a while to seep in – it wasn’t until we were back at the car that I said “Wow, I guess this means we’re really getting married!”
It was the perfect proposal for us, full of personal meaning. It was at our spot, it was on the 14th (our anniversary is on a 7th, this is twice as awesome so 7+7 – so cute) and he’d decided to prove me wrong on my statement that “Nothing ever happens in May” – I can’t say that now!
And now for the obligatory ring pic! Excuse the colour of my hands, it’s very cold here today!
