I know its not the same as Christmas, but we spent thanksgiving just Darling Husband and I. It was a little lonely, but the perks were we didn’t have to deal with certain people, we could eat when we want then just relax after. It was tough but we knew next year we could be with them, Will this be a one time thing do you think? Maybe do something special to keep your mind off not being with family. Maybe you could video chat with them the day of 🙂

@candy11: We are spending Christmas-just the two of us this year. I’m expecting it will be very low key and relaxing. I think we are both looking forward to not having to make a long drive.

We spent last Christmas just the two of us (and the past 3 Thanksgivings). We went skiing last year and it was perfect. For Thanksgiving we went on a very long hike and did a puzzle.  It doesn’t quite feel like the big family affiar, but it’s been great to make those small memories for us.  Maybe you guys can find a tradition that you can do together every year; even when you’re with family. For example, a puzzle, board/card game, making a specific food item, going for a long walk, opening presents at Midnight or 3am or something.  I know it’s hard and not the same, but it doesn’t have to be bad.

@candy11: Very true! And somehow this year the weather has been worse so, I’m very glad we aren’t driving across the country this year. We are also contemplating buying a wii, so if we do I’m pretty sure we’ll be kicking each others butts playing games on Christmas day. 🙂
