I would plan to pack everything into a POD and move into an Extended Stay America or similar for a couple of weeks to give you some breathing room. (EDIT: Darling Husband is staying in an Extended stay right now for 3.5 weeks while we close on a house and its $41 a night)

Then when you get your COD and are ready to move in on your own schedule the POD is delivered to your new house and you can unpack and move in.

I would look into a cheap furnished sublet or AirBnB rental to bridge the gap. I don’t know about the other stuff as i’ve never had a home built, but it should definitely be possible to find a place to live that’s affordable!

@Leonard2B:  Tell the moving company this and they can put the stuff in storage until you have a delivery date. This is what we had to do.

Try not to stress. I know easier said than done, but we are dealing with something similar as many people are and moving companies are used to things that are uncertain.  If they cant deliver when they pick it up, they will store it.

And as for new furniture purchases, the same goes. I spoke with one company and told them the situation and they said no problem just let us know when you know.

Well, if you aren’t closing on your home until the building is finished, you shouldn’t really be buying furniture anyway! That’s like, #2 on the list of things to “absolutely not do” that our bank gave us, at least – no large purchases – it could jeopardize the loan approval. Plus you really need to be “in” the space to see what works the best. If you have enough furniture to be functional (which you must, if you’ve been living with it), i’d just wait and add stuff more slowly. It’ll allow you to find the best deals, as well.

I’d get a pod for stuff the house stuff and move into an extended stay or furnished place. You can also try homeaway or vibro monthly rentals might be a good way to go. Don’t stress hurst pack your stuff and leave.

i second no buying anything new. It’s much easier once youre in the place and they can deliver to you. YoI never know what could happen between now and then.

Wait on buying furniture until you see what your stuff is like in there.  You have enough to live initially from your 2-bed house.  You’re anxious – but imagine if you buy things and change your mind after you’re there a little bit!  (Feel free to window shop now though.)

No advice, but I hope it works out!  All of our lovely wedding gifts are still in boxes in our tiny rental to be used when we move into our new house, hopefully early July.

Waiting is so hard! 🙂
