- Wedding: May 2013
I loved looking at pictures from other people’s weddings while we were planning ours over the last year. It really helped with ideas and we really wanted to do a lot of DIY projects so I wanted to pay it forward and share some pictures and describe some of the things that we did.
-designed and printed invitation suite and sewed with sewing machine
-designed and tied together programs
-painted and baked tiles and added felt feet to make coasters for wedding favors and put together smores packets for favors
-made garland flowers from comic book pages and then pink flowers from chiffon
-made a cake topper using clap trap action figures (a little robot from the video game Borderlands) and added a veil and top hat taken from a premade cake topper
-I hand embroidered table numbers, made glitter votives, and sewed fabric liners for wooden crates for the centerpieces
-imitated a pair of loubouiton shoes by adding flower petals to t strap wedges
-and for the rehearsal dinner BBQ we cut burlap for table runners, put them over white table clothes and used empty glass bottles and put flowers in them lining the centers of the tables. super cheap. super cute.
I think there were more things we did too but that’s what I can think of at the moment.
AND after being together for 8 years, we really wanted the wedding to represent us so we added all of the nerdy details we could think to. Here are a few:
-I walked down the aisle to musicians playing “Ancient Stones” from the video game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
-We walked back up the aisle to the musicians playing the theme song from The Guild on a loop
-Comic book flower garlands we made
-we used a little suitcase for the cardbox and lined it with maps from our favorite video games
-our clap trap cake toppers
-His grooms cake, which was a surprise for him, was the TARDIS from Dr. Who
-and, a surprise to me, one of my friends requested that the DJ play a song from the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. it was a funny/sweet moment that I wont forget!
And now, here are some pictures below. I hope you enjoy them and that they help someone else who is planning! thanks!
