Did you ask them if there is any other option for hte ceremony besides a tent rental if it rains? Not sure where you live or how likely the chance of rain is, but you could always go with your favorite place, hope for the very best but have a rainy day fund for a tent if that doesn’t work out.. If you aren’t able to rent a tent and there is a chance a rain then you just can’t really go with that option

Personally.. I wouldn’t take the chance. It’s pretty unlikely that it will rain on my wedding date (because of time of year and location) but my attitude was that I just don’t want to spend time hating the rain if it does.

I am living on the wild side.  My wedding and reception will be outside with not much of a back up plan if it rains

How much of a daredevil are you?  Thinking about the weather in your part of the world at the time of your wedding – is it worth the risk?  I (being a chicken) wouldn’t do it.  But, that may be because I live in a location where it is sunny and warm one day and snowing the next! I’m biased (and chicken)!

Although we’re having a summer wedding, we live in the UK and there is a chance of rain. We discounted any venues that didn’t have proper contingency plans that we loved, and so are having an indoor wedding; we’re not relying on outside space at all. We looked at some gorgeous outdoor venues, but if it rained, the contingency plans were just not good. And we didn’t want to take the chance and end up having a miserable day.

I don’t think any venue is perfect, and I don’t know where you live or what the chance of rain is. But if you do go ahead without a contingency plan, do so fully aware that it might rain, and make sure you’re happy to take this risk. I’d have been utterly gutted if it rained, as we’re spending a lot of money, so we just didn’t take the chance.

Seems like a silly rule. I bet if you are there, on your wedding day, and it starts raining, they’ll bend the rules :).
