Oh no!  I’m sorry.  I hope the tree oil helps.

They do make some antibacterial drops to put in the fish’s water. I remeber my ex-boyfriend’s mom dropped her beta in the sink one day while cleaning its bowl and he had a swollen eye and she got these special drops and everything turned out fine. I’m not sure if she got them from the vet or pet store, I would try the pet store first. Maybe it will heal on it’s own and you can try the drops to prevent infection? Good luck!

He’s a very handsome boy!  I hope he recovers!

If he is getting worse, however, there are ways to humanely end their suffering ( http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-the-most-humane-way-to-euthanize-a-fish.htm ).  Not trying to be a downer, just wanted to share this information with you just in case, because I wish I would have had it the last time we had a sick fish who was slowly dying.

Aw I am so sorry for your loss. It’s tough to lose a pet, no matter the size.

I’m sorry for your loss 🙁 I’m a big fish person too and at one point had breeding bettas, they’re wonderful little fish. He sounds like he was a good boy.
