It totally just dawned on me that I didn’t share my proposal story yet. I shared it under under bios under another username,,,but decided to change that username since it gave away my full name. Here is my proposal story as Mrs.H2B!
November 7th, 2010
Before you read on, you must know that I am a photography fanatic. I’ve always loved photography, and have started a small photography business this year. When I tell stories, I always include pictures. My friends never bring their cameras if they know I’m coming to an event. They know that I’ll take about a thousand pictures and make up for them not having any. To me, pictures are a treasure. I can spend hours looking through old albums, whether they are of family or friends.
I was away for the weekend visiting some university friends. I had a great weekend, but was feeling excited to get home to my boyfriend. I pulled into the parking lot of our apartment building later in the evening, completely exhausted from a seven hour drive. My close friend who had traveled with me helped bring my bags in. My boyfriend ran into view telling me…don’t come into the office … I’m making something. My friend looked at me funny and said… “Make sure to call me when you find out what’s going on”…And away she went. I, being completely exhausted, went into the bedroom and laid down, waiting for him to finish “making something”.
Of course, like any other person would… I laid there trying to figure out what on earth he could be making. It had been our 8 year dating anniversary the day before I went on my trip, and he had gotten me flowers…so I thought…maybe he’s doing something extra for that. I had no idea. A proposal never crossed my mind since just a week earlier we had been stressing out about finances, and he had told me he would definitely not be able to afford a ring anytime soon. He finally called me into the room.
When I walked in, there were 7 small picture frames laying face down, and two bigger frames underneath, lying face down. He told me to wait a second, and then started playing our song “under the bridge, by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers (a pretty unconventional song). He told me to lift the smaller picture frames one by one…from left to right.
Picture #1 was the first picture ever taken of us, when we were 16 years old, in the hallway at school. Picture #2 was prom… picture #3 was from Canada Games…so on and so on… Each one represented a year of our relationship. I was very impressed…and went to hug him…and he said: “no, wait. Lift up the next frame.” I lifted the next bigger frame, and there was the picture of my dream ring; a beautiful, elegant solitaire. At this point, I started shaking a little bit…and looked at him with wide eyes. He told me to lift the last frame. I lifted the last frame, and there were the words written out “Will you marry me….please?” I turned around and he was behind me… on one knee.
At this point I don’t remember much. I just remember crying, and asking “Are you serious”? He then said….well yes or no? I said yes (of course) and he slipped the ring onto my finger. We then spent a few intimate moments laughing, hugging and kissing…and shortly thereafter started making excited phone calls to family and friends. I also found out shortly after that he had asked my parents permission earlier on that day.
He’s my best friend, and I couldn’t imagine my life without him. I always tried to picture what my perfect proposal would entail. I never pictured this…but it was better than I had ever imagined. Very intimate and private… nobody will ever have the memory of that moment but him and I.
I cut one of the smaller frames out of the picture by accident…oops..showed how excited I was I guess. Also my name is Robyn, his is Rob…. so we sometimes refer to ourselves as “Rob squared”.
