Haha oh man that sucks. Yes, call the vet. I don’t know how well a dog could digest a condom.

If it was recent you could make her puke it up with hydrogen peroxide I think…but I’d check with the vet. It’s kind of a uh…long item lol.

I first read this and my reaction was to laugh – I’m so sorry! I just was NOT expecting the word “condom” to follow that title…

Anyway, yeah, definitely call the vet!

Oh, gross.  Damn dogs.  🙂

The worst that will happen is the vet will laugh and tell you to keep an eye on her poop and that she’ll probably be fine.  I’d still call and ask.

you could always call a vet and tell them your dog ate a balloon and see what they say to do.  less embarassing, but still the same idea…

My puppy (7months old at the time) ate a surgical glove.  I too freaked, and spoke to the vet who wasn’t too concerned.  It ended up coming out in his poop the next day, same colour it went in – bright blue!  I wouldn’t worry too much about it, unless she doesn’t pass it in the next 24-48hrs.

Lol omg that’s gross. I would call the vet and ask. At least you will give them all a good laugh!

My mom’s dog once swallowed a latex glove and it came out, whole, in his poop. But, yeah, I’d call the vet just in case.

You absolutely need to take your dog to the vet.

If the condom has passed far enough along to induce vomiting would be dangerous. A condom can be passed however you are running the risk of it becoming wrapped around intestines or blocking the digestive tract. While eating a variety things is in a dog’s nature this is not something that can be naturally broken down and digested adding to the potential complications. Your vet will need to take an x-ray to determine the next steps.

@MrsTillerResq:  What happened? Did you call the vet? Personally, if it was me, I would keep a close eye. Any vomiting or if the dog stopped pooping I would consider that an emergency, but I would also think chances would be good the dog would pass the condom without incident.

Honestly she’ll probably poop it out since it doesn’t have sharp edges or anything that would make it get stuck. I’d keep an eye on her before panicking and paying for a vet visit. But I am just that kind of person in general, a wait and see if it actually causes harm or is sick first person

And seriously that is so gross and hilarious!

FIL’s dog did this, it’s dangerous but they left it and it came out on it’s own (well.. no, they had to pull it out at the other end) a couple of days later. This same dog ate an entire leg of pantie hose which is wayyy more dangerous.

Just watch for symptoms of an intestinal obstruction (like lethargy, lack of appetite, fever, vomiting, distended abdomen etc…) and wait and see. If puppy seems healthy and is eating and pooping properly you’ll likely see it in a day or 2.
