- Wedding: March 2021 - Kauai, HI
I posted in other threads about our unconventional strategy of having an engagement party now and then eloping to Hawaii in 2021. Our party was last Sunday 8/11 so I thought I’d do a recap as it was essentially our only wedding party “reception”.
Degidios Italian restaurant in St.Paul, MN
Bulk flowers from Costco I arranged myself in inexpensive vases. Lavender and orange roses plus white calla Lillie’s.
Placecards/ Menus and table numbers from vistaprint with 40% off coupon.
Photographer found online through thumbtack. We interviewed a few- avoided a couple weird ones! They were fantastic with us and the guests. Pics will be a few weeks yet. She used her hubby as a second so that was an extra and free perk. 4:30-730 (3 hours) we also included them in our count and sat them for dinner.
Open bar for the whole event 5pm-9pm. We did not hit our tab maximum which was nice. I attribute it to a Sunday event. We chose Sunday as to not take up a summer Saturday for guests. The venue was 30 minutes or less for 90% of the guests. A few closer to one hour.
Appetizer was fried Parmesan Risotto in Rosa sauce
Buffet of pesto Alfredo bow tie with chicken, chicken Parmesan and cheese tortellini with bolognese sauce. 3 special diets were accomodated and all loved their entrees.
Dessert was cupcakes of rocky road, raspberry lemonade, chocolate cream, bananas foster and coconut pineapple. I had the bakery give me 20 boxes so guests could take home a cupcake if they were too full to eat one at the party. I ordered 65 full sized for 50 people and had 10 leftover. People shared to try multiple flavors.
we did favors of small bags of gourmet popcorn cheese or caramel with a “thanks for popping by sticker” from amazon Everyone ate it during cocktail hour at the party or took it. We had none left!
The venue provided a wireless mic and sound system. I had a custom playlist people seemed to like it or tease me about my maroon 5 taste.
My dad helped me put together an electronic picture display that scrolled through pics of us as little kids and as a couple and with my kids on various trips. People enjoyed that. He used some kind of scrapbook template that was really neat.
A song came on and someone suggested we dance, so we had a little “first dance”. I’m ashamed I don’t remember the song! But it’s on my playlist.
Despite our verbal directions of no gifts we still received some very generous cash and gift card gifts.
I told our enegagement story and had asked a few guests ahead of time if they’d like to share thiers and they also shared. People really seemed to enjoy this! Many additional guests shared stories. My fiancé thanks me for all my work for the party and made a very cute love speech to me that I’ll never forget.
It was an unforgettable night. I hope these details help someone in their planning! I’ll share pics when they arrive. I didn’t take a single one!!
