I’ll post pics later. We just got home from a week long trip through Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
Originally we had planned to visit my mom in Oregon for a couple of days. She wanted us to see a landmark hotel before we all headed to Boise to celebrate our engagement with the rest of my family with a nice dinner of some sort.
The plans changed a million times. My mom couldn’t seem to remember what month we were visiting. She also wouldn’t confirm that there was a dinner planned. It was stressing me out a lot since our drive would be over 10 hrs and if we weren’t going to see family what was the point??!!
The day before our trip I text my mom and said, “Are we having a dinner with the family?” She replies, “yes on Saturday.” Okay, sounds good. So I text my cousin and ask if we are having a dinner to which she replies, “Not that I have heard…” OMG What??!!
So anyway, we decided to let it be. We had our hotel in Boise booked and we were going to go no matter what happened. I haven’t been back in over 5 years. If there didn’t turn out to be a dinner we would figure some way to get people together.
We arrive in Oregon at the Hotel. My mom text us about a million times…”where are you? Where are you? Where are you???” “2 hrs mom” “30 mins mom” “5 minutes away mom ;)”
She takes us to our room and tells us to stay put because she has a tour planned…this is a ghost hotel. We get cleaned up after the long drive and she returns. Our first stop is the “haunted library.” She swings open the doors and “SURPRISE!!!” My entire family had come out to celebrate our engagement…that means Idaho, California, and Washington.
We had an excellent dinner, lots of catching up, not nearly enough pictures, children running around happy-go-lucky, and so much love and excitement. Turns out everyone was in on it for months and though I thought no one was really interested in the wedding they have been waiting for this suprise so they can start getting going on helping us with the wedding?! 🙂 How exciting!!!
My 2nd cousin asked ME to be a flower girl…which I was hoping she wanted to be. My cousin made gorgeous ribbon topiaries in our colors that we can use in the wine and cheese room at the inn.
We toured the city, looked at antiques, and just had such an incredible time. I did a lot of thinking on the long long drive home. I realized how long it’s been since we reached out to others, mainly our families. But since the wedding planning has started so many people have come out to support us and are so excited about our wedding. We feel so very loved and LUCKY!
