Virginia’s Wedding Vendor Review 09.20.08
Overstock.com B – bought my bridesmaids matching pink pearl earrings, bracelet and necklace. Price was great and pearls were gorgeous, but the clasp wasn’t too strong and was hard to get on. Overall, they looked great in photos.
Iridesse.com D – a sister company to Tiffany & Co. I ordered my mom a beautiful pearl bracelet ($85) to match her gown and ordered myself a white pearl bracelet for my gown ($65). I made the order on 9/13 and paid $19.00 for expedited shipping. I received an email from a rep telling me it would be delivered on Fri 9/19, the day before the wedding. Well, it didn’t come Friday. I was on the phone with Iridesse for 45 mins while they tried to find my order. Then I was told it would be overnighted for Saturday am delivery. Well, it didn’t come Saturday, the day of my wedding. It arrived Monday. While their products are beautiful, their service sucks.
Boca Raton Bridal B – I got my St. Pucchi designer gown at a sample sale for $4,000 less than originally priced. Alterations were reasonably priced. Customer service is good. But when the dress arrived in Jersey having been shipped from Florida, it hadn’t been cleaned as there was still a smudge on it. Also, there were roughly 50 ties in the bustle and 6 women at my reception couldn’t get it to bustle properly.
Men’s Wearhouse /MW Tux B – The MW Tux at Coral Square mall in Coral Springs, FL sucked. We left after not having been attended to after 35 mins. The Men’s Wearhouse in Coral Springs, however, was fabulous. The MW tux at the Deptford mall was ok, the customer service was good, but my husband needed last minute pant hemming and had to buy a new shirt as he thought the rental looked cheap. He actually wished he would have worn a tux he had already owned. Dads’ tuxes fit fine.
Ann Taylor.com A – The bridesmaids’ tea length brown and green dresses were beautiful and I only paid $65 for them. They fit great. I am in love with Ann Taylor.
Spanx.com A+ Had a 30% off coupon, bought the “all the way up pantyhose”. They were delivered right away (after ordering a week before the wedding) and were super comfy all day long.
Endless.com A+ First pair of wedding shoes I bought on ChineseLaundry.com were too high (4 inch) and uncomfortable. After reading some comments on a pair of Mia blush heels (3.5 inch) on Endless.com I ordered and fell in love with them upon arrival. They were comfy for over 7 hours.
Hair/Makeup A – Friends of my sister came over at 6:30am to do updos and makeup. They were awesome.
Massage/Nails – Ciao Bella, Williamstown A. I highly recommend that every bride get a massage the day before the wedding. It was well worth it. Manis/pedis at the salon were great, too.
Flowers Sam’s Club.com A+ – I ordered 250 roses and 20 stems of hydrangeas for less than $250. They were delivered on Thursday and my family helped to make over 10 centerpieces and flowergirl basket. They turned out fabulous and held up for 3 days.
Bravo Flowers, Sewell, NJ A – The girls Melissa and Brandy were super helpful and worked within my $1,000 budget for the bridal, bridesmaid and toss bouquets along with many wrist corsages and boutonnieres. They used flowers in season and really followed the direction I provided.
DIY Candy Buffet/Vases A+ – SaveOnCrafts.com is one of my favorite sites for glassware. So cheap, too. For the actual candy we got 14 lbs of jelly belly beans, M&Ms, rock candy, etc for about $170 at the Sweet Stop at the Deptford Mall.
Jacqueline Stoughton, Turnersville A+++ jacqueline.stoughton(at)Verizon(dot)net – My best friend makes the most amazing wedding cakes. We all knew she was hot stuff in high school, but once she became a pastry chef, we were floored. The confections that she designs and painstakingly bakes and decorates will blow your mind. She does bridal showers, baby showers, birthdays, weddings, etc. Our cake was a square 3 tier cake with fondant and handmade fondant cherry blossoms. Everyone at the wedding raved about how delicious it was. We cannot wait to eat our top layer.
Day of Coord, Jennifer Stepenosky A+++ StepenoskyEventPlanning(at)gmail(dot)com
– This girl is FABULOUS. She has it all together. I didn’t think I originally needed a DOC, but as we neared the big day, there were too many details for me to take care of. Especially because we were coming in from Florida, I needed some major help. Jenn took care of the centerpiece set up, tapestry, cake table, placecards, candy buffet, band and photography coordination and was the point person for Lucien’s Manor. She was in touch with me numerous times before the big day to ensure she knew exactly how we wanted our reception to go. My Maid/Matron of Honor loved her as it took off so much needed pressure. My husband loved her confidence and ability to take on many intricate projects. We’re already booking her for my sisters’ weddings (whenever they get married).
Photography by Julia.com, Williamstown A+++ Julia Diebold is probably the best photographer in the greater Philadelphia area. She did one of my best friend’s weddings and her attention to detail and ability to make everyone feel comfortable coupled with her incredible skills and overall bubbliness is enough to make you want to hug her at the end of the day. Seriously. Her basic package is very reasonably priced, although my husband wanted like a gazillion albums, so we paid a bit more. We skipped on a videographer and put our budget towards professional photography. Julia took every kind of photo we could think of and even took photos after the reception when my dad wanted “just a couple more family photos”.
Reception – Lucien’s Manor, Berlin, NJ A – The folks at Lucien’s are professional and will guide you through every step of the event planning process. They were great and our room captain, Ricardo, was unbelievably nice and attentive. He ensure that the bride and groom ate and always had a full glass of champagne. We went with a brunch buffet with added omelet and crepe stations, added seafood display, bloody marys, champagne and wine for less than $100 p/p. Our reception went from 11:45 – 3:45 and we had the whole place to ourselves.
Entertainment – The Next Generation Swing Band, Downingtown, PA NextGenerationSwing.com A++ – This band got things hopping at our reception! Dressed in tuxedo attire, there were drums, piano, saxophone, trumpet, bass, and vocalist for less than $4,000. They played the songs from our list and we truly amazing to listen to. I highly recommend them for an elegant, jazzy feel.
Rehearsal Dinner – Ironmoto Japanese Steakhouse, Turnersville, NJ A+++ – We cannot say enough good things about the service we received at this restaurant. My husband set everything up with the manager, John. We had about 50 people at 2 hibachi stations. We had bottles of wine flowing all night and great entertainment from the hibachi chefs. The staff took care of every request. And the food was delicious.
Paper-Source.com and WeddingPaperDivas.com A++ I love the products and service from both online companies. I am sooo in love with Paper Source. I also love Beau-coup.com I ordered wedding stickers, parasols, Chinese paper lanterns, etc.
Ideas/Research – While I enjoy theknot.com, my favorite wedding research site happens to be WeddingBee.com. Complete with DIY ideas and instruction, this site helped me along the planning way.
Bridal Shower/Post-Wedding Brunch
Scotland Run, Williamstown, NJ A We enjoyed the brunch in both the private rooms. Service was good, food was yummy.
Dance Dedicates, Pompano Beach, FL A+ – We took 7 dance lessons with Sayra and we felt confident with our choreographed number to “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson. We highly recommend dance lessons for couples. It’s so much fun.
Arthur Murray, Turnersville, NJ A – My parents took a complimentary lesson and liked it. My dad and I took one lesson to learn a basic waltz for our father/daughter dance. The instructor was helpful and in 45 minutes, we had it down.
My Taiwanese fiancé turned out to be the most handsome and thoughtful groom. But, I can’t recommend him, because he’s alllll mine.
