- Wedding: September 2010
Our venue, an outdoor museum, was hit by a tornado on the night of June 21. I live half the country away, so I was dependent on whatever news I could find on the internet. The place itself wasn’t putting out very many pictures and was closed to the general public, so I was getting very frustrated with the lack of information. I just took a trip up to Wisconsin and got to see the damage and all the progress they’ve made. Over 2000 trees were blown down, but we were very thankful to see that the barn we’ll have our reception in sustained very little damage, it’s amazing really. Nearly all of those trees have been removed now, and the stumps ground out, and they’re just beginning to figure out landscaping plans. I’m heartbroken over our ceremony space though. We toured the rest of the grounds looking for an alternate ceremony site, but nothing is as nice as what should have been. They’re going to re-sead the green we were to use, but aren’t sure if they’ll be allowing people to walk on it by the time our wedding comes. I lost it just for about 5 seconds and totally cried in front of the museum director, pretty embarassing. I have to keep telling myself that in a few years this will be a story that we laugh about, and that all that really matters is that I’m marrying the love of my life that day… but I secretly mourn the loss of our beautiful venue a little bit. I just needed to say that somewhere.
