We finally booked our ceremony venue and boy, was it nerve-wracking! The venue is a renovated historic property built in 1884 in a city park. It’s a popular wedding location and is part of the city’s park department. They don’t take reservation for the following year until November and it’s a “lottery system”. We’ve had our date for a few months now (already booked reception venue, photographer, and dj) and had to wait until today to book the ceremony spot.
We had to get to the parks department at 7:30am and get a number. Then at 8:15am they started drawing tickets to determine the order of the line. Once you got in line, you picked your location and date. (They have about 20 park venues throughout the city, but only 3 are popular for weddings.) They had a huge spreadsheet on the wall and would mark off dates as they were picked. Then you waited in a different line to get your name in the computer system and pay.
Well, we were picked 30th (out of 67) and when we walked by the spreadsheet, I thought our date and location were taken, but luckily I just read the sheet wrong. It was agonizing watching the people that were ahead of us in line pick. It also took a LONG time. By the time it was our turn, our date was still open! But then we had to wait even longer to get it entered into the system. I just got to work – I was there 3 ½ hours! But it was worth it because we got it!
