- Wedding: September 2012
I lost my job last week. Via text.
Fiance and I have only been engaged about 2 weeks now and we have a short timeline to work with due to his training, so we set the date for September 8th. The day after I was able to secure a venue for the reception and ceremony I got a text on my way to work letting me know that I need not bother make the drive out there, as our slave-driver boss requested that I be “let go”. I am/was furious and hurt, I’ve never been laid off or fired or what have you in my life. I worked upwards of 40 hours a week at a really great research job in college, but when we graduated and moved away I could only find this job in retail, which barely lasted 2 months. We were banking on the income from my job paying for the wedding. Now we’re back down to one income in the house and I am afraid that we’re not going to have enough saved up in the next few months to pay for our already low budget ($3000-$5000) wedding. I’ve already filled out some applications to a bunch of, what I hope to be, quick turn-around jobs that’ll get us by. I have no idea what to do otherwise.
And to top it all off my mother told me a few months ago that she was taking my tax stuff to her accountant (sweet, right?). I asked her about it last night and she told me that she’s filing them as her dependant (I’m 22), even though the only thing they’ve provided for me in the past 5 years was health insurance. I’ve paid for my tuition without their co-signaturres, rent, my car, everything I’ve needed since I was 18. So now that extra grand or so I was expecting to help pay for our wedding is MIA.
What’s your wedding stress of the week?
