I’m going with someone I found on craigslist as well. They’re new into the market, and looking to expand their portfolio. You don’t get all the bells and whistles (i.e. album). You do get retouching, dvds of all your photos to own, engagement session, and wedding session. I don’t know if it’s a great deal per se, but it’s a heck of a lot less than most wedding packages start and like I said, you get about 4000 images on dvd to use/keep.
P.S. I’m so happy to read people with positive craigslist photographer stories. I’m a little hesitant about the idea (even though I really like the photos on their site), but my gut says “this is the one”

Just google. I sifted through many pages though.

Recommendation from someone else in the industry.

My sister and brother-in-law own their own photography business. They’re doing mine.
If they were unable or did not want to do it, I definitely would’ve asked them for references.

I’ve found other brides to be or newly married friends to be my best resources! We got our photographer, venue, and florist from recently married friends and couldn’t be happier!

I got a recommendation from a friend. Her SO knows our photographer personally. I confirmed with reviews that were all excellent! There were many other great photographers in the area that I found on wedding wire but they were all too much money for our budget.
Our photographer kind of hit the middle ground between super expensive and total bargain. One of my main selling points was in addition to her work the price included a flash drive of all our photos in addition to the online gallery. So many other ones I looked at cost 30% more and that did not include any of our photos! That would have cost another 20% more.
Doing the research and getting recommendactions pays! 🙂

@Alumisiren: JUST so you know, The Knot gives every single vendor listed a “Best of the Knot” award. Wedding Wire does the same thing.

All you need to do to get those ” awards ” is get 5 perfect reviews. Not hard. I find my photographer by referral

@Buttercupmcgee: My photographer is another Bee! I met her on here when I posted a thread about Budget friendly local photographers. :). She is awesome!

there’s a search engine for my area. Then I would check their website and reviews on WeddingWire before contaciting them. Luckily my choice was also on The Knot so she’s everywhere.

I found her first via an ad on Craigs List. Then, I was looking through pictures on her website and realized she had taken some of my cousin’s son. After that, I was talking with my family and found out that not only does her husband work with my sister-in-law, but her sister (our 2nd shooter) was the one who did my nephew’s newborn pictures and my brother and sister-in-law’s maternity pictures. Based on her prices and the family connections, I felt really good about booking her.

Facebook! A friend of mine did makeup for a wedding that she shot and posted a picture of her doing the bride’s makeup and a link to the photographer’s website. I remember going to her site and loving her pictures, but losing the bookmark. Around the time we got engaged (about a year later), I went through ALL of her Facebook photos to find the one she’d posted because it had the link to the site.
Our venue has a photographer that they recommend, but her least expensive package starts at $2000 more than our entire package.

I found my photographer through craigslist. He was an event photographer, with very few weddings under his belt. My wedding photographs were fantastic, though his work since then is more creative.

I searched online and then met them at a local bridal show. We got a great deal because my brother also booked the same day.

I found mine on Craigslist as well. I was a bit skeptical but her photos are amazing and she’s budget friendly. It was by chance that I came across her ad but I’m glad I did!
