We’re both software engineers at different (rival, from some perspectives) Silicon Valley tech giants.

(I loved the comment from the bee who is a civil engineer and her Fiance is a software engineer. You’re totally right! Software engineers aren’t really engineers we just call it that for lack of a better word, mostly, ha. There was this really great blog post a while back comparing writing software to building a bridge, and basically concludes with “If it were a bridge, we’d all be executed”)

And anyway, we met the way most single-when-they-moved-here folks meet in this area. On OkCupid ๐Ÿ˜‰

Danilynne:  FI and I both have multiple jobs. We’re hoping if we work hard now while we’re young and able, we can retire early.

Me: Accounts & payroll, make-up artistry, massage therapy and I will be returning to bartending during the warmer Australian months (the bartending will only be for a couple of years though, I’ll leave after the wedding). I also used to get a bit of income from my Instagram page but it got hacked so now I’m starting all over again. Oh well.

Him: Warehouse work, security and barbering (he does a mean fade). He also helps his parents out on the farm during grape picking season driving around the tractor to pick up the boxes and transport them to the shed. His plan is to eventually leave the warehouse and security jobs and open up his own clothing/barber shop.

I think I’m lucky that I’ve found someone who is just as driven as me.

We met through a mutual friend. A fair few of us were sitting around having a jam sesh in the backyard and he walked in, came over and introduced himself. We instantly clicked and became best friends. A few years down the track I got a once-in-a-liftetime offer that would require me to relocate to Barcelona. He asked me to stay…and now we’re engaged.

I am an administrator/technical writer for a university and he is and electrical engineer in private industry. We met on Match but we both went to the same university at the same time! After we graduated, we both worked at the same university (in buildings less than half a mile away!) and still didn’t meet until we found each other on Match!

We’ve both been working in the service industries at various restaurants and bars while we finish school.

I just graduated with a BA in Philosophy and am currently on maternity leave. I’m still planning my next step but will likely be applying for my Masters in Public Policy when Fiance is graduated next spring.

Fiance is completing his BA in Journalism/Communications, and aside from nightlife, he does freelance journalism, marketing and communications for a number of organizations. Also, he is a very accomplished violinist and teaches fiddle lessons, or plays gigs.
